Staff Spotlight
Olivia Chronister is in her first year teaching at DHS, but has been an educator for twelve years elsewhere. Mrs. Chronister teaches English, Character Ed, and Careers. She is married and has two children and enjoys spending time with family and going to the lake. When asked her “why” as an educator, Mrs. Chronister said she is in education because she was made to be a teacher. She loves watching students grow into confident young adults and helping them achieve their goals.
Lance Knight has spent his entire 16 year career as an educator here at Dewey High School. He teaches P.E. and is the head boys basketball coach, head boys and girls cross country coach, and is an assistant track coach. Coach Knight is a 1995 graduate of DHS. He is married and has one daughter, Mia, who attends OSU. When asked his “why” as an educator, Coach Knight said that he always wanted to be a teacher and coach. His dad is a career educator, and he had teachers and coaches throughout his years at Dewey and in college who were positive influences on him. He is even happier 16 years later that he made the choice to be an educator.
Extracurricular Focus
Our FFA chapter is one of our biggest organizations on campus. Led by Mr. Epperson, these students are extremely active and productive. Recently, they had their Back to School Picnic, several Ag Farm work days, a Public Speaking Workshop was offered, groups volunteered at Western Heritage Days, and on Monday, they took 68 floral entries to the Tulsa State Fair. As the fair begins, students will be involved there showing and doing a number of other things. Ag Mechanics students just finished a project creating some steel stands for school use, and students are also using the greenhouse and our aquaponics systems for projects. Some of our FFA students will also be involved in upcoming speech contests and skeet shoots. We're very proud of the well-rounded education our students receive as part of our FFA chapter.
Principal's Desk
October 13th marks the end of the first nine weeks of the 1st Semester. We will continue our "Go Green" movement and will not be sending home progress reports at the nine week mark. I want to encourage you to actively monitor your students grades and attendance through our Online Parent Portal. Contact the High School office and we'll gladly get this set up for you if you do not already have a login.
At the midterm point, we also find our Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences on the calendar, October 16th & 17th from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm. As this day approaches, you can contact an individual teacher via email or call the HS Office to schedule a conference. I firmly believe the communication between us here at Dewey High and our stakeholders, you the parents & guardians, is vital in the success of the educational process for each of our students. I hope you can join us for conferences as we head into Fall Break mid-October.
