12 June 2022

1st Reading: Acts 2:1-11
2nd Reading: St Paul to the Romans 8:8-17
Gospel: John 14:15-16, 23-26
Welcome to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary & St Matthew
There is something immensely intimidating about mysteries of faith. Broaching a subject like the Holy Trinity without falling into heresy is as easy as walking across a just-mopped floor. For a long time, it meant that I avoided reflecting too deeply within myself on the mystery of the Trinity.
Pope Francis Monthly Intention: Families
We pray for Christian families around the world; may they embody and experience unconditional love and advance in holiness in their daily lives
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen

Marian Catholic School Welfare Fund
At Marian Catholic School we have a fund to support families. Our community like many others has been affected by Covid and recent increases to our cost of living, leaving some families needing a little extra support to meet their daily needs.
We use this fund for many things, including: help with uniforms, paying for stationery, school camps and school lunches.
If you are able or would like to contribute to this Welfare Fund for Marian School we would really appreciate your generosity.
The bank details are: ASB 12 3152 0132786 00 (reference Welfare Fund)

Lifeteen Retreat 24 June - 26 June
Our Lifeteen Retreat is fast approaching! Our theme, Discovery will allow teens to discover where they are at with their faith right now, and inspire them to go further into the great unknown, which is a life with Jesus. The weekend will be one of the biggest highlights of Life Teen in 2022, and we're hoping to have as many of our youth attend as possible. For more info, email us at youth@hamcathedral.co.nz

Last Sunday's 10.30am International Mass
A wonderful celebration of the diversity of our parish was held on Pentecost Sunday. We had prayers, songs and readings shared in multiple languages and a number of parishioners wore their national dress.
On Wednesday St Johns College celebrated Marcellin Champagnat Day with a full school mass in the Cathedral and an afternoon of fun house competitions and staff vs student challenges. During the Mass, 11 students completed their Sacraments of Initiation, with 4 Baptised, and all of them receiving Confirmation and First Holy Communion.
100 years of Marist Education
St John's College celebrated 100 Years of Marist Education in Hamilton and 60 years of St John's upon the Hilltop on Sunday 5th June with a Mass and luncheon at the college. Over 100 old boys and staff attended including a number of Marist Brothers from around New Zealand. During the homily, Monsignor Frank spoke of the history of Marist in New Zealand and Hamilton and during the luncheon, Brother Doug told of his memories as a teacher and Monsignor Frank recalled some of his memories (and hijinks) as a student. It was particularly special as Monsignor Frank is a St John's College day 1 student, a former Marist Brother and teacher at the college, and is now the college chaplain.

We pray for the Ukraine...
Holy and Gracious God
We pray for the people of the Ukraine, for their country and their leader.
We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.
We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness.
We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace.
We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.
Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace in Ukraine.
And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son.
Lord have mercy.
Amen
