Business Partners Learn About CTAE Efforts
The Business Education Partnership met on Nov. 8 at Georgia Farm Bureau headquarters. As part of the meeting, the school administrators and community partners heard about all the ways that agriculture is already a part of our schools.
“It’s just a way for you to teach what you were already going to teach through the lens of Ag,” Georgia Farm Bureau’s Lauren Goble said of “Ag in the Classroom” techniques.
Additionally, they were updated about the increased focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics (STEAgM) in the Rutland zone schools. This is all a part of preparing our students to be a part of the workforce after graduation!
Veterans Elementary Hosts 'Bring Your Parent to School Day'
Parents were invited to the first annual "Bring Your Parent to School Day" at Veterans Elementary to spend time in the classroom with their children to participate in literacy activities along with enjoying a Thanksgiving lunch. Clifford the dog made an appearance to promote literacy, and parents were encouraged to read with their children. Parents enjoyed cake and punch along with lunch as a show our appreciation for all they do to support Veterans Elementary.

Williams Elementary Part of Community Clean-Up
On Saturday, Oct. 27, L.H. Williams Elementary Student Council, parents and staff participated in a Community Clean-Up Day as a part of the "Leader In Me" initiative. Students were joined by members of Leadership Macon, the Macon-Bibb County Recreation Department, and students from Mercer University
“I would like to commend our Student Council for leading this endeavor for our school and community," said Principal Dr. Christopher Ridley. "As a Leader-In-Me school, we must encourage our students to engage in activities that allow them to be leaders and great citizens.”
Communications Department Recognized with Awards
Bibb County's entries for Photography, Newsletter and Social Media - the District Facebook page - were all honored as gold-level recipients, and the "Victory in Stories" video series and "VIP" Identity Package won bronze. The Photography entry, a photo from the 2017 Westside-Howard football game, was also named "Best in Class" across the state.
"We are honored to receive these awards and want to continue to do our best in communicating all the ways our District is preparing students for a global society," said Stephanie Hartley, Director of Communications.

Japanese Students Share Culture at Rutland High
A group of 16 students from Kurobe, Japan, visited Macon earlier this month, taking in local sights and learning about the area. That included being hosted by families at Rutland High School, where the students presented parts of their culture on Nov. 9.
This included art forms, games and geographical facts. Rutland students even got to participate after the presentation.
"Many of our students have limited travel opportunities, and I want them to be aware that there's a whole world outside of South Bibb," said principal Kent Sparks.

Schools Recognize Veterans for Service
Students across the District took time to recognize our nation's veterans in recognition of Veterans Day. At Rutland Middle School, veterans from the community were invited to the school for a breakfast on Friday followed by a ceremony.
As part of the ceremony, the school's band, chorus and cheerleaders performed, and the Junior Leadership Corps showed off its marching. Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones Jr. was the guest speaker, and he told the students about the lessons he and his father - as well as all veterans - picked up during their time in the armed forces.
"My dad, these veterans, decided to join, not because of a lot of money, but because they wanted you to have a quality of life," Dr. Jones said.
There was also a parade at Lane Elementary, and Vineville Academy got a visit from Staff Sergeant Benjamin Bradshaw. We are thankful for our veterans every day!
