STUDENT ASSESSMENT UPDATE
GREETINGS FROM PRINCIPAL FERGUSON!
I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the spring weather we have had. It seems like this school year has gone by so fast, even with the many challenges we have had to work through.
I would like to take this time to communicate about the upcoming student assessments. You may recall that a year ago our schools closed due to the pandemic. During that time, the state suspended the 2020 annual testing season, and we did not administer any assessments last spring. Recently, the U.S. Department of Education informed all 50 states that students are required to take the state tests, and further, that students must take the state tests in person.
Additionally, we are required to administer each of the annual summative assessments.
The purpose of this special student assessment update is for me to provide you with the information about this spring testing season. I have laid out the information below with the required assessments our students will need to take, who takes which assessments, and the testing dates. I apologize in advance, but it will seem like we are testing all the time over these next weeks, but this is necessary in order for us to have the assessments completed by the end of the school year, and within the testing window.
We are creating testing schedules which will ensure that only one test will be administered per day. The classroom teachers will keep students and parents up to date about each test.
I would like to remind all students and families that the standardized tests are just one snapshot of where the student is today in his or her learning. Please encourage your child to think of the tests as a normal part of their school day, and for them to not be worried or anxious.
As always, please be sure that our students are eating healthy foods, getting to bed early each night, sleeping well, and staying rested to do their best on each test. It is important for all students to have a good breakfast each morning either at home or at school.
For our students who are learning remotely, I will be providing the opportunity for you to come to Crosby to take the assessment in person. There will be separate locations in the building for any remote students who do come so that we adhere to social distancing guidelines. Please contact your child's teacher if you plan to have your remote student come to the building to take the test in person. Remote students will be scheduled for their testing sessions at the end of April and in May. More details will be sent to those students at a later date.
Any student returning to the building for testing, who has not done so already, needs to have the medical self-certification form completed on Power School prior to coming in the building for testing. Please contact the office if you need assistance with this. (815-943-6125)
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff.
Have a wonderful weekend!
