Parent Teacher Conferences - Feb 28th and 29th
We have Parent Teacher Conferences coming up on Wed, Feb 28th and Thurs, Feb 29th. School lets out at 11:40am on both of these days, so please plan accordingly. We invite each of you to sign up for a conference time at the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0F48A8AC2AA3F85-47995776-6thgrade.
When you sign up for one timeslot, you will get to meet with each of the three teachers for 5 minutes each. We encourage each family to schedule a parent teacher conference, however, if you know that your 6th grader is doing well in all subject areas, and you would like to opt out of scheduling a conference, please send the teachers an email to let us know that you are choosing to opt out.
Human Growth & Development - Permission Forms due Fri, Feb 23rd
We will have our Human Growth & Development lessons on March 7th and 8th. Students need to have signed parent permission in order to participate. Please go to this district website to read more about it and to watch the video lessons: https://www.cusd80.com/Page/115423. These topics are presented through the video presentation only. The boys and girls watch the same videos, but in totally separate classrooms. We do not discuss the topics or answer any student questions. We advise them to ask their questions to their parents when they get home. At the website, you can view the exact videos that are used in the classroom. Your student brought home a gold-colored permission form on Thurs, Feb 6th. Signed forms need to be returned by Friday, February 23rd. If you need another copy, you can print it from the PDF below.

My Perspectives Unit 2: How can people and animals relate to each other?
We read two blog posts: one in favor of technology and one that feels like we have access to too much technology. Students have been working on their compare/contrast argumentative 5 paragraph essay after comparing the blog posts. They will be writing their first draft next week and continue to revise and edit using the rubric provided.
We will be reading the trade book, "Anything But Typical" by Nora Raleigh Baskin. Students will be done with the book by March 5, 2024 and will take an AR test before the end of the day on March 6, 2024.
Sadlier Unit 5 test will be on Friday, February 23, 2024.
Sadlier Unit 6 test will be on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Math Period 1:
Math Periods 2 & 3:
In 3rd quarter we are beginning by learning about the Ancient Greeks, beginning in 800 B.C.E. It's been very interesting to learn about Greek Mythology, the Olympics, the geography of Greece, and the different city-states. The students are really enjoying this unit as the Greeks were such fascinating people.
We have completed our science projects! All students have completed a slides presentation that is being sent to the district so that your child can compete in the district-wide science fair! All of the students have also worked on making a science project board, which has been a fun process. The students have taken so much time to complete their projects and I'm very proud of the results and all that they've learned.
