We are weeks into the Fall trimester, and I hope everyone is adjusting. If you are a new or returning student, we in the library are available to help you succeed.
You can always meet with us in person or virtually, but we also offer self-guides to explore independently. Check out some new news and some reminders.
First, we'd like to remind everyone that we will close during upcoming holidays. You can read more about that in the Library Hours section.
Next, let's talk about the website. We've added shortcuts to all library computers to make accessing our website easier. Once there, you can visit our tutorials, guides, study room signup, and more. In our main toolbar, you can search our databases, journals and catalog. You can learn more about that below.
Also, from our website is access to Grammarly and Visible Body. These software tools boost your writing (Grammarly) and anatomy (Visible Body) knowledge.
Fall 2023
The library will be closed the following dates.
CLOSED
Monday, October 9th: Indigenous People's Day
Thursday, November 23rd: Thanksgiving*
Friday, November 24th: Day after Thanksgiving.
Saturday, November 25th: Day after the day after Thanksgiving.
We will also be closing early on Wednesday, November 22nd. We will post further details on our website closer to the holiday.
We reopen on Sunday, November 26th.
Weather Alerts
It may be early to think about weather alerts but if the school is closed because of the weather, we will be closed as well.
Other Changes
Should there be any other changes to the open hours, we will post those changes on the website. You may also find them on our social media accounts. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
Shortcuts to the Online Library
The other shortcut takes you directly to our catalog where you can search for books and videos.
Just look for the Chrome icons labeled for the Library Website and the Library Catalog.
Easy Searching
The search has a new feature "MORE LIKE THIS." When you click on the "MORE LIKE THIS" option underneath an article's information, the search will provide 5 additional articles that are similar.
Grammarly
The university offers access to a free Grammarly EDU account.
Grammarly EDU
- helps with your spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- offers verb tenses and agreements corrections
- suggests ways to polish our writing and strike the right tone
- highlights redundancy, run-on, and wordy sentences
- performs a basic plagiarism check
Instructors tell the writing lab they wish student writing were more polished. Getting a Grammarly EDU account is a fast way to improve your writing and impress them.
So start your trimester right by downloading Grammarly to work with Word, Outlook, and your favorite browsers. Check out our handy guide, with short tutorials, here:
Writing Help Resources
The guide offers links to more information on writing as well as tutorials on citation management tools like Zotero. Not only does Zotero help you store and create citations, but the Word add-in makes it easy to add citations to your paper.
Finally, don't forget you can email the library (library@nwhealth.edu) to set up a writing lab appointment to get personalized assistance.
Visible Body
Or, you can access Visible Body's 3D models for your own personal study and review.
