BES Vision Statement: Building Exceptional Students
From the Principal:
We have reached September and hopefully cooler temperatures. August flew by, but we've had a great start to the year. Students and teachers have settled into routines and we are excited about the future. I have created a BES Parent calendar to help keep you updated of events. As the year progresses, I will update with our school events.
Thursday, September 7th, 2023, BES will hold our Parent Orientation and Title I WIN (What I Need) Night. There will be several events throughout the evening. Our PTO will meet at 5:30 in the cafeteria. Our book fair will open from 5:30 to 6:00. It will open back up at 6:30 and will stay open until 7:30. Classrooms will open at 5:50. At 6:00, parents will watch a short video showcasing our title I program and how it benefits our school. After the video, teachers will start the part of the evening dealing with parent orientation and WIN Night.
The night enables parents to spend time with their student’s homeroom teacher learning how to read and understand student data. BES, along with all Catoosa County elementary schools, uses many sources of data to guide teaching and learning. We also use multiple assessments to gather data and determine areas of strength and weakness. From the data, we create intervention groups where students are re-taught reading and/or math skills. We want you to understand this information and also give us a chance to explain how we are preparing your student for the future. You will also leave with two activities that you and your student can do together at home to help strengthen math and reading skills. If you can't make it to the meeting, a folder will be sent home with your child's information. We hope you will be able to attend this very important and worthwhile event. Education is a team effort and we need your help in preparing students for the future.
We are happy to have Officer Cheatham with us full time this year. The last two years, he has been split between BPS and BES. He is actively involved in our safety meetings and safety planning and discussions. We appreciate all he does to keep our students and staff safe.
This year, BES has ten new staff members. I want to introduce our new staff to you. Mrs. Elizabeth Smith (3rd grade); Mrs. Kristen Magallanez (3rd Grade), Mrs. Brandie Kay (3rd Grade), Ms. Ann Jackson (4th Grade), Mrs. Jocelyn Delk (4th Grade), Ms. Keeton Vandiver (4th Grade), Ms. Malia Buchanan (5th Grade), Mrs. Hayley Bush (5th Grade), and Ms. Mary Humphrey (Special Education), and Mrs. Melissa Kreider (Special Education). We are exited these ladies decided to join the BES team.
We try our best to keep you updated on all that's taking place at BES. We will use this monthly newsletter to send home important information. We will also use the text alert to send home information as well as reminders. Make sure you are signed up for the text alert. Teachers send home important information through daily/weekly folders as well as DoJo/Remind updates. Anytime you have questions or concerns about the events taking place, please reach out to the teacher, Dr. Smith or myself and we will be glad to help.
We Are Battlefield.
