What's Happening in the Library?
Reading Clubs
Students in 3rd - 6th grade are able to participate in the Bluebonnet Reading Club. There are 20 books on the Bluebonnet reading list that are chosen by the Texas Library Association. Students must read or have read to them at least 5 of the books on the list to be eligible to vote for their favorite in January. The winning book chosen by the students of Texas will be announced in February.
Pearcy Junior Scholar
Students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade are able to earn the distinction of being a Pearcy Junior Scholar. Students must read at least 50 books (60 for 6th grade), complete a Bluebonnet Project, participate in the PTA reflections project, and write a letter to their favorite author in order to fulfill the requirements which are above and beyond their regular class work. Junior Scholars will receive a medal, a gift card from Barnes and Noble, and have their name engraved on a plaque that hangs in the library.
Battle of the Books
Students in 4th and 5th grade are encouraged to participate in the Battle of the Books. Students should read the 8 books that are on the Battle list for their grade level. Four students in each grade level will be chosen for each team and will compete in March against other schools in the district to see who knows the most about the books on the list. The goal of the program is to broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, promote a variety of literary genres, build teamwork skills, and to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading.
Students received information about these clubs last week.
