Special Events & Announcements
For the first time ever, Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will soon launch “School's Out! Reading is In!”, a summer reading initiative for all APS students currently in kindergarten through 11th grade. This summer reading challenge aims to help combat summer slide - the academic loss students experience during summer break- by providing reading resources and opportunities to access the extended text and topics for next school year. Each child in grades kindergarten through 11th grade will receive a drawstring bag that contains four grade level appropriate books, a Reading Journal, and Think Sheets. For example, current 5th graders are considered rising 6th graders and will receive books that are aligned with the 6th grade ELA curriculum. Books will be sent to the attention of the principal for distribution; your school will receive the books between May 15-22. Each school will organize and host the kick-off program!
Stay tuned for more details from your school leadership team!
