Title IV, Part A School Safety News

November 2020

TEA SSSP Survey

Districts should have received an email on November 2 with questions regarding the TEA SSSP (Safe and Supportive Schools Program)Survey that is due November 30, 2020.

When a district answers these questions it is important for them to note the laws and policies found here- TEC 37.115 and their FFB Legal policy.

It is also important to note that the number of questions being asked this year were severely reduced on the survey due to COVID. In the future the district will be required to report more information that is required for districts to report in the law.

It is also important to note that several TAAs released this year addressed this data collection-

Feb. 20, 2020- Senate Bill 11 (SB 11) and Other School Safety-Related Legislation

July 23, 2020- Senate Bill 11 (SB 11) and Other School Safety Updates

Sept. 17, 2020- Senate Bill 11 Data Requirement and Safe and Supportive Schools Program (SSSP)

Training Opportunities

School Behavioral Threat Assessment

There are still a few online sessions in November through the TxSSC .

You can register at the following link: https://txssc.txstate.edu/events/sbta-trainings/

The board of trustees of each school district is now required to establish a threat assessment team to serve at each campus of the district. The Board must also adopt policies and procedures for the teams that are consistent with the model policies and procedures developed by the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC). In addition, each team is required to complete training provided by the TxSSC or a Regional Education Service Center.
