Week 9, Term 1 2022
1/4/22 - He Pānui Wiki Iwa, Whānga Tuatahi
Tēnā koutou i tēnei ahiahi (good afternoon/evening everyone).
Today started with a bit of 'April Fools' hijinks - no we are not making the kids walk home (the bus drivers are not on strike), no Mr Brown is not retiring and no we are not finishing the term early next Friday the 8th of April. The trick certainly stimulated some fascinating conversations. Students and teachers had a bit of fun too - even Mrs Norman was tricked into thinking someone had a pin in their finger!
We had a super FoGS AGM last night and it was so nice to see some new faces coming along. If you haven't been along yet and would like to, we'd love to see you at our next meeting. The fair has been locked in for Saturday the 12th of November. Ang Falloon and Damelza Cook are stepping down from FoGS and we would like to thank them very much for their outstanding contributions to FoGS. Without such dedicated parent support, our fundraising efforts wouldn't be nearly as successful.
Staying on the team for another round are: Jeremy Sharp (Chairperson); Rachel Nicol (Vice-Chair); Nadia Wither (Secretary); John Strang (Promotions); Alex King (Raffle & Committee Member); Hayley Quirke (Committee Member); Christa Ashby (Committee Member).
Joining FoGS this year is Jo McKay, taking over from Ang as Treasurer/Finance Officer; and Ro Stevenson, taking on Facebook. Thanks so much ladies. We have vacancies for the following roles - Fair Raffle support (helping Alex this year with a view to taking over when she steps down at the end of 2022); Fair Stalls Liaison; Fair Auction Organiser. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact either Belinda (principal@gladstone1.school.nz) or Rachel Nicol (FoGS Vice-Chair - rachel@gladstone1.school.nz).
FoGS Easter Raffle
We would love your help in putting together an Easter raffle - to be drawn on the last day of term (Thursday 14th of April).
We have a fundraising target of $16,000 to cover the cost of the following items:
Furniture (tote trays, seats, teacher whiteboard tables, high stools)
Kapa Haka Tutor Costs
Additional Camp Costs
Values Focus This Week
Our focus for next week is to concentrate on the 'inclusive' part of our vision statement. We talked to students about this today and will be following it up with reminders, scenarios and activities during the week.
Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Ngā manaakitanga,
Belinda Bunny

Current guidance has no limits on outdoor gatherings and masks are no longer required outdoors unless you personally feel like wearing one. Please keep collecting your children from beside Gibson Hall - this is working well. If you are coming in to see teachers, you sill need to sign in using the Vistab in the office and wear a mask indoors. We are through our peak and have 38 students away and 76% of students now back at school.
