A Note from Our Principal

Dear North Beach Families:

I’ve received several questions about this week’s presentation on Advanced Learning. If you missed the presentation, there is a lot of information on the department’s webpage, as well as contact information if you have questions about the program:

https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/advanced_learning.

Earlier today, Superintendent Jones announced that Seattle Public Schools will have a full reopening of school in the fall. This is exciting news, based on the Washington State Department of Health COVID-19 guidelines for the 2021-22 school year. State Superintendent Chris Reykdal also made a statement about the return to school next fall. I know this has been one of the big questions on everyone’s mind. Now that we know that there will be a full reopening, the details of what school will look like for staff, students, families and the community can start to be worked out. I will share information with you as soon as I have it.

Finally, read on for information from the district Special Education Department: for our third and final round of community forums this year, we invite families to join us to share their experiences. Special Education department leadership and staff will be present to provide information, listen to feedback, and answer questions. All sessions will be facilitated, and language supports will be available. Specific links to each session can be found below (click on the title of the event you wish to attend at the time the meeting is scheduled):

Please contact spedcommunications@seattleschools.org if you have questions or need information on how to join a meeting via phone.

Have a safe and healthy weekend,

From the Office

Thank you to all of you who are getting your attestations done early. It is a huge time saver if they can be done before 7am for Cohort A, and before 11am for Cohort B.

For those of you who have recently stopped getting notifications, please email healthscreening@seattleschools.org. These people are extremely helpful at getting folks back online.

For those of you who accidentally hit the wrong selection for their student and can’t go back, please complete the survey, even with the WRONG answers. You will get a notification of status by email in an automated response. This email will have a link to re-take the survey. If they have accidentally stated that their child has symptoms of COVID-19, they must still complete the survey and then they will need to request a new link from us, as no re-take link is sent under that scenario.

PNW Parent Education Presentation: Digital Safety 101

After more than a year of remote schooling, nonstop developments in educational technology, and social media overload -- now more than ever -- it’s important for families to educate themselves on digital safety. To address this, we’re partnering up with PNW Parent Education (www.pnwparented.org) for a presentation titled, “Digital Safety 101”. Jo Langford, dad, Master’s-level therapist, author and sex educator for tweens, teens and parents, will help parents figure out how to balance their family’s digital life with boundaries, etiquette, and good judgement. This FREE online educational event is on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 6:30 pm. If you are interested in attending, please register at: https://tinyurl.com/digitalsafety2021.

This relevant and engaging presentation will also include the following information:

  • An overview of youth behavior in a digital age: the risks and benefits of online life;

  • Raising digital natives: setting up guidelines and house rules for safety;

  • Roadmap of highways & potholes of digital development;

  • Q&A with guest moderator: Christy Keating of the Heartful Parent.

Lastly, while watching the event, you can order a delicious family meal from The Extra Ingredient: https://www.exploretock.com/theextraingredient/. Please click on the link titled, “May 26, 2021: PNW Parent Education Event - Pre Order”. All orders must be placed by Wednesday, May 19, 2021 and 20% of all proceeds will be donated to PNW Parent Education.
