Help Your Child Succeed in School: Build the Habit of Good Attendance!
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Start building this habit now so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day, is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college!
What You Can Do as A Parent/Guardian:
· Make sure students get sleep, eat well, and exercise.
· Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
· Lay out clothes and pack back packs the night before.
· Make sure your child has the required and up-to-date vaccinations.
· Develop backup plans for getting your child to school if something comes up. (Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.)
· Try to schedule non-emergency medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
· If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to their teachers, school counselors, and other family members for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
· If you are not certain whether to send your child to school due to illness, call the school to speak with our school nurse to discuss the situation at 703-580-9665.
· If your child must stay home due to illness, ask their teacher for resources and ideas to continue learning at home. Please be sure to email your child’s teacher for any work they may have missed while absent.
- When submitting an absence request for attendance in ParentVue, please be specific with the reason for absence in the notes section by including details of the reason for absence; For example illness symptoms, doctors diagnosis, details of traveling, etc.
- If your child has excessive tardies and absences, you may be contacted by the school Attendance Officer.
