November 2022

Congratulations on Completing the 1st Grading Period of the School Year!

Reports Cards

On Wednesday November 2nd at 10:00am, Ms. Danielson will host a coffee and conversation meeting. Mrs. Karrick will be present to help any parents gain access to ParentVue so they will be able to view report cards in ParentVue. Report Cards for Grading Period 1 will be accessible in ParentVue on November 9th. Paper copies of report cards are no longer provided by PWCS.

Student Vaccination Records

Student Health Services has updated the Parent Communication Toolkit for Required Immunizations to assist parents of the importance of getting their children vaccinated and submitting proof of vaccinations by the extended December 14th deadline. You will be receiving this communication in multiple ways via auto dialer, marquee, SMS text message, and email — all of which can be found in the toolkit at the link above.

Updated student records must be completed by December 14th, 2022, to meet immunization compliance. Students who remain non-compliant will be excluded from school on December 15th and will remain excluded until the required immunization documentation has been provided to the school.

The Virginia Department of Health provides a current list of school and day care minimum immunization requirements. Please contact Student Health Services at 703-791-7266 with questions.

Help Your Child Succeed in School: Build the Habit of Good Attendance!

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Start building this habit now so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day, is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college!

What You Can Do as A Parent/Guardian:

· Make sure students get sleep, eat well, and exercise.

· Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.

· Lay out clothes and pack back packs the night before.

· Make sure your child has the required and up-to-date vaccinations.

· Develop backup plans for getting your child to school if something comes up. (Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.)

· Try to schedule non-emergency medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.

· If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to their teachers, school counselors, and other family members for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.

· If you are not certain whether to send your child to school due to illness, call the school to speak with our school nurse to discuss the situation at 703-580-9665.

· If your child must stay home due to illness, ask their teacher for resources and ideas to continue learning at home. Please be sure to email your child’s teacher for any work they may have missed while absent.

  • When submitting an absence request for attendance in ParentVue, please be specific with the reason for absence in the notes section by including details of the reason for absence; For example illness symptoms, doctors diagnosis, details of traveling, etc.
  • If your child has excessive tardies and absences, you may be contacted by the school Attendance Officer.
  • Please to go to the Attendance Guidelines Link and Attendance Matters document below for the PWCS attendance regulation, policy, and important information!
