I hope that everyone enjoyed their weekend and had so much fun in the snow! It was nice to get an actual snow day after the fun snow flurries on Friday! Enjoy some photos below of our fun in the snow at FSA on Friday! Even though it didn't stick, we still had a great time!
I would like to congratulate our own Ms Hibbah Agha who was recently selected as a 2020 College Board Counselor Recognition Program Recipient! FSA’s annual International Night will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2020 from 2:00-5:00 PM! We take pride in the cultural diversity represented in our school, and our International Night is a great way to share and celebrate our various cultural traditions. Please read carefully because we need your help to make it possible!
The event this year will be the same format as last year, but adding a bazaar to help raise money for the athletic field. We are recruiting families to contribute in various ways. Whether you would like to represent your country of origin or share what you’ve learned about other places while traveling abroad, we would be honored if you would share your experiences and insight with the FSA family. The opportunities to contribute include the following:
- Manage a booth - This includes selecting a country to educate our families on the country and culture. You will be provided with tables and a tri-fold poster board to create a display showcasing your country’s heritage including relevant art, photos, traditional dress/costume, music, dance, food, souvenirs, games, etc. If more than one family volunteers to represent the same country, those families will collaborate to manage the booth. Any family managing a booth has an opportunity to be in the Parade of Nations. Details will follow once signed up.
- Bring food and/or drink items indicative of a specific country - If you aren’t up for managing a booth, but are a good cook and want to share your culinary talents, please let us know what items you would like to contribute for our food sampling.
Perform a talent representative of a country - Performances can be by our students, parents and/or others in the community. Examples include Irish or Indian dance, West African drumming, Capoeira, Salsa dance, singing, etc. Please note performances should be 3-5 minutes long.
- Sell items at the International Night’s first ever Bazaar! - The vendors will only be adults. There will be a $40 table reservation fee to support the athletic field. You will have to provide your own 6 ft. table. Participants can sell clothes, jewelry, accessories, artwork, etc. Please note food items are not permitted. These will be reserved on a first come first served basis, so hurry and reserve your table today!
- General Assistance & Volunteering - If none of the above appeal to you, but you would like to help at the event, please sign up to serve as a general event volunteer. We also need help with set up and clean up, manning the passport and immigration booths, coordinating talent, and more.
Please click the link below to let us know how you would like to participate by February 29th.
Note: You may volunteer for more than one event! Once we receive your Google Form response, we will reach out to you with additional details.

FSA Students Compete at Regional Spelling Bee Today! Move on to next round
Regional Champions! Science Olympiad Team has Record-Breaking Performance
The Middle School Science Olympiad Team broke several team records on its way to winning top honors at the Regional Tournament held at Forsyth Central High School in Cumming on Saturday. “This is the first time in FSA history that we have medaled in each of the 23 events in a single tournament,” said head coach Pam Walsh. “In addition, our team score of 37 was the lowest in team history. A ‘perfect’ score with a first place in every event would be a 23,” she explained, “and it’s exceptionally rare for a team to approach that. Our margin of victory over the second place team was over 100 points,” she said. The team has now earned an invitation to the State Tournament to be held on March 21 at Kennesaw Mountain High School.
“We’re very proud of our team,” said head coach Gloria Stathos. “They’ve worked very hard and it showed. We know the state tournament will be fiercely competitive, so we’ll be working super hard to prepare for it.”
Students thoroughly enjoyed the tournament as they raced across campus through the snow to get to their events. A multitude of snowmen were constructed as students frolicked in the snow between events. Thankfully the snow had ended before it was time to be picked up.

FSA ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMIC BOWL TEAMS ADVANCE TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN CHICAGO; ESHAAN B. BRINGS HOME GOLD
Both the Academic Bowl Elementary Division Team (5th-graders Jack B., Grayson H. and 6th-grader Dheemant P.) and the Middle School Team (6th grader Eshaan B.; 7th graders Alexander R. and Lucas A.; 8th-graders Sanjana K., Peter S., and Weston B.) competed at the 2020 Georgia Academic Bee and Bowl on February 8th where they earned the opportunity to advance to the National Championships in Chicago June 12-15. Eshaan B. also won a gold medal in the Academic Bee.
Coach Bennion explained, “I’m proud of these students! The elementary team was the only team present who had never competed before. In the middle school division, Eshaan (6th grade) and Alex (7th grade) had to hold down the fort against teams consisting of 5-6 eighth graders until their other teammates could be shuttled over through the snowstorm in shifts from the Regional Science Olympiad Competition. The whole team was finally present in the fifth round and won with a score of 430 to 220 against River Trail Middle School.”
In order to qualify to compete in the upcoming Regional National History Bee, National Science Bee, National Academic Bee, and the National Geography Bee the students had to take an online exam and finish in the top 50% in the nation. We have received the scores for the Geography Exam in which all students qualified to compete at the Regional Competition; however, more impressive, all of the students including Nitish A. (6th) and Noah D. (8th) also qualified to compete at the National Geography Bee this summer in Chicago by placing in the top 25% in the nation. Most impressive, four FSA students qualified to compete at the 2020 International Geography Olympiad this summer in Istanbul: Alex R., Lucas A., Noah D., and Weston B.
