Lindsey Weekly Update
March 5, 2021
See Email below from the Superintendent: No School on March 12, 2021
Dear West G Parents/Guardians:
Our active COVID-19 cases remain very low this week. Thanks for all that you're doing to keep our students healthy.
West G staff members will receive their second COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, March 12, 2021. The vaccination schedule poses problems related to class schedules and coverage. Therefore, school (in-person and virtual) will not be in session for students on March 12, 2021. Staff will have other non-instructional duties on that day.
I apologize for any inconvenience this creates for families. However, I think that converting to remote instruction on the vaccination date would create even more challenges for parents and babysitters/caregivers. Thanks for your continued patience as we navigate the 2020-2021 school year.
Sincerely,
Rich
Richard A. Markwardt, Ph.D.

Message from Mrs. Bellan
Parents, please remind your children that if they need to bring a cell phone to school they must keep it turned off and in their bookbags, for the entire school day (8:40 to 3:40) They cannot use it during lunch or recess. Thank you for your cooperation.
Warmly,
Meagan

Reading/Math Monthly Calendar
Who: All Students Grade K-5
What: Beginning in February each student will be given a calendar where they can record the number of minutes they are completing academic work at home. At the end of each month, students will total their accrued minutes and will complete a Google Form to earn prizes. This will be done in class. Prizes will be sponsored by PTO and will include a special key chain with "brag tags" that can be earned each month.
When: We will begin February 1st and students should begin logging time on the paper calendar they spend reading, practicing math facts, homework, or completing IXL activities.
Why: Students at Westwood will have a monthly goal of 500 minutes and Lindsey students will have a goal of 600 minutes. For our WW students, this equates to 20 minutes 5 days a week and for Lindsey students, we hope all students are reading a minimum of 20 minutes a day and spending at least 10 minutes on Mathematics.
How: In class on 2/26 and 3/1, students will complete a Google Form to document their minutes. We will pass out prizes to all students who met the established goal later next week! We appreciate your partnership in this endeavor as well as our participation with PTO and student council to make this exciting for our kids!
Don't forget to submit your reading minutes for some great incentives.
Students will be doing this in class. In case they are absent or didn't get to do it in class, here is a link. Please only complete once!

ART NEWS:
The students at Robert C. Lindsey school have been studying the vibrant, bold and colorful artwork of Romero Britto. This Miami-based artist was born in Brazil and lived in Paris. His colorful prints, paintings, and sculptures can be found in galleries, museums and public spaces all over the world. Lindsey students used line, pattern and color to explore Britto's signature style.
Flexible Small Group Instruction
Therefore, your child may be offered a supplemental intervention with staff should their data indicate a need. These groups will be offered during our Intervention/Enrichment period so students don't miss core instruction.
These groups will be short-term and help students meet grade-level expectations.
