Here are five questions you can ask your child about a specific activity or learning content that took place this week. We are encouraging our students to become effective communicators and to share new knowledge and insights.
- Why do authors use different text structures?
- What are some strategies to distinguish the different text structures?
- How can determining the text structure help with reading comprehension?
- Who was Patrick Henry? Why is he an important figure in American History?
- Summarize his speech "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death."
English Language Arts Objectives and Assignments for the Week of May 31
ELA Objectives:
- Student demonstrates command of language and its conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.
- Student writes various pieces for a variety of purposes.
- Student uses appropriate structure and writes with purpose, clarity, and voice.
- Student acquires and uses new vocabulary.
- Student identifies key ideas and details in literature.
- Student analyzes the author’s craft and structure in literature.
- Student identifies and analyzes features, events, and characters in stories.

-Wednesday - The Fighting Ground Five-Paragraph Essay Due
-Thursday - ELA Challenge
-Friday - "Home Alone"

-Read 20 minutes nightly
Social Studies Objectives and Assignments for the Week of May 31
Objectives:
- Student understands how economic patterns and principles impacted the development of the U.S.
- Student understands how political, religious, and economic ideas and interests brought about the American Revolution.
- Student describes the views, lives, and impact of key individuals during the period.
- Student identifies, explains, and analyzes significant historical events and chronological sequences of events.
