Week Five Term Two 2023

Our 2023 Mantra

Big picture

Our School Vision...

St Vincent’s is a welcoming, Christ centred and child focused community where inclusivity and diversity are celebrated. Inspired by our patron St Vincent de Paul, we seek to empower all to embrace the spirit, peace and wisdom of Jesus and become respectful stewards of the earth.

Acknowledgement of Country

St Vincent’s School acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar people, the traditional custodians of the lands on which we learn and play. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and future and honour their unique cultural and spiritual relationship to the land, waters and seas and rich contribution to society.

Reflection for Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost is a special celebration in the Catholic Church, celebrating the transformative presence of the Holy Spirit. On this day, we reflect on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, empowering them to boldly proclaim the Gospel and establish the early Christian community.

As we reflect on Pentecost, we are reminded of the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Just as the Spirit emboldened the apostles, the Spirit also comes to us, offering guidance, strength, and inspiration.

Pentecost invites us to open our hearts to the Holy Spirit's presence and allow Him to transform us. The Spirit calls us to live with greater faith, to be courageous witnesses of Christ's love, and to embrace our mission to spread the Good News.

May Pentecost renew our zeal for our faith and our commitment to building a community centred in love, unity, and service. May the Spirit's presence ignite our hearts with passion, deepen our faith, and enable us to be true disciples of Christ.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love. Amen.

From the Leadership Team

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

At St Vincent's, we are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, respect, and reconciliation. Our curriculum incorporates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, histories, and cultures to promote awareness and understanding among our students. We believe in the power of education to challenge stereotypes, build empathy, and create a more inclusive society.

On Sorry Day, and during Reconciliation Week, our student Cultural Team continue to encourage us to engage in meaningful discussions about the Stolen Generations, participate in activities that promote understanding and empathy and explore resources that shed light on the experiences of Indigenous Australians.

Together, we continue to work towards reconciliation and strive for a future where all can live in harmony, equality, and mutual respect.

As we observe Sorry Day, we remember the strength, resilience, and cultural richness of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

May we all play our part in the healing process and contribute to a just and inclusive society.

As part of our ongoing commitment to Making Jesus Real in our daily lives, we have chosen TUP: Tolerance, Understanding, and Patience as our focus for the next two weeks. These virtues are essential in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

Tolerance calls us to accept and embrace the diversity of individuals and cultures within our school community. It means recognizing and appreciating our differences, whether they be in backgrounds, beliefs, abilities, or perspectives. By promoting tolerance, we create a space where everyone feels included and celebrated for who they are.

Understanding goes hand in hand with tolerance. It involves actively seeking to learn about others, their experiences, and their stories. When we take the time to understand one another, we break down barriers and build bridges of empathy and compassion. Understanding helps us cultivate deeper connections and develop a genuine appreciation for the richness of our diverse community.

Patience is a virtue that allows us to extend grace and kindness to one another. It reminds us to be patient with ourselves and with those around us as we navigate challenges, differences of opinion, or moments of frustration. By exercising patience, we create an atmosphere of support and understanding, fostering growth and personal development for all.

Throughout the next two weeks, our students will engage in various activities, discussions, and reflections centered around tolerance, understanding, and patience. We encourage parents and guardians to continue these conversations at home, reinforcing the values we promote at school.

Together, we strive to make Jesus real in our interactions, embracing tolerance, understanding, and patience as guiding principles in our daily lives. By living out these virtues, we create a community that mirrors Christ's love, where everyone feels valued, respected, and accepted for who they are.

May we all seek to live the coming weeks in a beautiful way.

Anne, Lorralie and Creed

PS. Today I will begin five weeks of Long Service Leave. During my time away I will be walking the Spanish Camino, following the Way of St James and visiting important Vincentian sites in Paris. I leave, safe in the knowledge that our incredible Assistant Principals, Lorralie Owen and Creed Yorke, with the assistance of all our amazing staff, will care for our community beautifully and my absence will barely be noticed. I look forward to seeing you again at the start of Term Three. I will keep you all in my prayers. Anne

WELLBEING WEEK MORNING FITNESS

It was wonderful to see so many staff and students running and walking laps of the oval on Tuesday and Thursday morning during Wellbeing Week. Physical activity is linked not only to keeping our body healthy - it is also important for our mental health and wellbeing too! Our Fitness Club will continue on Tuesday mornings for PP to Year 6 children from 7.50am sharp to 8.20am.

SIMULTANEOUS STORY TIME - THE SPEEDY SLOTH

We loved sharing the story of The Speedy Sloth by Rebecca Young and the special message about the importance of self belief and never giving up!

ARE YOU MISSING OUR P&F?

As announced at our Annual General Community Meeting last year, Alannah Sullivan (our P&F President) has been seconded onto the School Advisory Council. Allanah and Tiffany Nguyen (2022 Treasurer) did their very best to keep the P&F going in 2022, however, covid restrictions, poor meeting attendance and having a committee of two made this very difficult. We will be looking to restart the P&F again in 2024 and seeking nominations for the various positions before the end of 2023. In the meantime, please feel free to ask questions, provide feedback etc. via the form on our school website https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=Iy-FxTM2KU-zhlHaU-NeI_8HM-q0FZtKq3GThHHP31lUQVY5WjBIVVFNSTNYN1FQTUhQNzNIM043TCQlQCN0PWcu or directly to anne.aquino@cewa.edu.au.
