Hello Glennwood Families!
I look forward to what we can do together as a team to help our neighbors in need. Please stay safe and warm out there!
Also, just a reminder that Dr. Dude is hosting a Town Hall this evening from 5:30-6:30pm. More information is below.
Warmest Regards,
Dr. Brookins
Help Needed with Community Food Drive
Please join the Glennwood Elementary community to support a food drive to benefit the Decatur community. We would like to close out 2020 by helping our neighbors in need.
The PTA and SLT are cosponsoring a food drive for the Decatur-Area Emergency Assistance Ministry (DEAM) that will run through the morning of December 16th. DEAM is an emergency assistance organization that is housed across the street from Glennwood at Holy Trinity. To learn more about the services DEAM offers to the whole Decatur community please visit their website.
Please drop off non-perishable food items (see below list for most essential needs) at Glennwood at the side entrance to the building near the stairs connecting to the parking lot. On Wednesday mornings, we will deliver the donations left at Glennwood to DEAM – so please have donations there by 10:30 AM on the 16th.
Alternatively, you can drop off donations directly at DEAM between 9AM and noon on Wednesday December 9 or December 16. Their office is directly across the street from Glennwood (515 E. Ponce de Leon, in Holy Trinity) and the entrance is on Sycamore Place and they will have tables out for donations.
Alternatively, if you’d prefer to make an online donation directly to DEAM, please visit here.
If you have any questions or would like to help please contact Stuart Andreason, StuartAndreason@gmail.com

Save the Date: Glennwood Read-a-Thon, January 2021:
The Glennwood Read-a-Thon, the PTA's main fundraiser this year, will take place shortly after we return from the holiday break, so mark the date now: January 16-29th, 2021. The theme this year is "Reading Takes You Places!" and as always, we will have prizes for the top readers. Our goal is to have every Glennwood student participate in the event. More details about the event will be shared when we return from the holiday break.
Help the PTA While you Shop:
While many of the PTA’s usual activities have been reimagined, we are still actively working to serve our Glennwood community. School supplies, teacher appreciation, virtual events, and PPE are just some of the ways we’ve been working to support our community this year. Without the PTA’s annual fundraisers, and as we all hunker down for the holidays, here are a couple ways you can raise funds to support our students, teachers, and an eventual safe return to the building, just by going about your daily routines.
These programs do not cost any extra money on your behalf, but over time, they will add up to make a difference!
When you shop at smile.amazon.com, Amazon will give .5% of your eligible purchases to a charity of your choice…namely, Glennwood! Every item available for purchase on Amazon is also available on AmazonSmile at the same price. You will see eligible products marked "Eligible for AmazonSmile donation" on their product detail pages.
Please visit smile.amazon.com and select “Glennwood Es PTA” as your designated charity to start earning money for Glennwood!
PUBLIX PARTNERS
Did you know every shopping trip to Publix can earn money for Glennwood? Simply sign up for Club Publix, select Publix Partners, and choose our school (you can search easily by zip code). Enter your phone number or pay with the Publix app every time you check out, and Publix will donate directly to Glennwood’s PTA.
Reminder About the Superintendent's Upcoming Town Halls
Join Superintendent Dr. Dude for a conversation on the status of the District’s reopening plans and initiatives. Also, the community will have an opportunity to ask questions via our new thoughtexhange tool which will be used to submit questions and rank previously asked questions. The link to thoughtexchange will be available under the announcements section of our CSD home (www.csdecatur.net) page 24 hours prior to the town hall. (Please see the Guide to Participation sheet below or watch this video to learn more about thoughtexchange.)

From the Clairemont PTA
The 2020 Decatur Holiday Marketplace will be virtual this year and held from November 27th at 8 am through December 11th at 5 pm! We are so excited to carry on the tradition of this wonderful community event which is in its 29th year. In light of the current COVID pandemic, we have decided to make this year's event virtual. During this time, all of the artists' sites will be available for shopping online and will be conveniently located on our www.clairemontpta.org website. A description of the shop and owners along with a few wonderful photos of their craft will be available to preview. If the artist is able to ship their wares after purchase, they will do so, and if not, for our local customers, we will have a special pick up day at the school on December 12th from 10-12. Meaning Clairemont is bringing the marketplace straight to your house! To shop Clairemont's Holiday Marketplace, just visit www.clairemontpta.org.

CSD COVID-19 Stakeholder Planning Committee
On the evening of Monday, November 30, the final report from the CSD COVID-19 Stakeholder Planning Committee (CSPC) was sent out via email. This report will advise the school district on its response and plans related to COVID-19. This committee is not a decision-making body, instead, their role was to make recommendations for consideration by the CSD administrative team and/or Board of Education. CSD leaders will use this report as a major source of information for their deliberations regarding what the next phase of pandemic-learning looks like in CSD. This report is not “the plan” for what comes next; that will come from the administrative team in the next week or so.
More information about the committee can be found at HERE. There you can read more about this committee, find their meeting minutes, their list of members and subcommittee, and their final recommendations once they are published here: https://www.csdecatur.net/cspc.
Meal Delivery Reminder
As a reminder, there will be no meal deliveries during the Holiday Break from, Monday, December 14 through Tuesday, January 5, 2020.

A continuing conversation with Dr. Jeannine Jannot
This month, we move from a webinar format to an interactive meeting so we can all speak up and share.
Dealing with family stress continues to be a top concern for us all. Let's work together to find new ways to cope and thrive.
We encourage participants to make connections and share resources as we explore the following together:
- Coping with parenting stress in pandemic conditions
- Managing your own self-care (physical and emotional)
- Balancing work, school, and other life demands (time management, organization, time management, energy management, boundaries, sleep)
- Identifying when someone needs an extra helping hand, and where to turn when help is needed.
