We are privileged to get to work with your children this year. We want them to be successful in all ways, so please call or email me anytime to discuss any issues or ask questions. It takes a village to raise a child, please let us be a trusted part of your village!

A Look At Our Week....
It is hard to believe that we are entering the final 3 weeks of school, a lump forms in my throat each time I think about it...Luckily we have another field trip this week, and another opportunity to enjoy each other's company outside of the classroom!
Your children's final reading levels have been assessed, although they will be assessed on their phonemic awareness this week, which will give us more knowledge about their foundational reading skills. You will receive all of our information on your child's progress in our final report card.
Don't panic if your child has not met the benchmark reading level this year, I will be sending home Level D books for your child to work with this summer so that they can keep progressing over the summer. For those children who did not reach goal reading level, it was largely a matter of not having their sight words memorized. We will be sending home a book of sight words with your child this week. The words that your child needs help with will be circled. Don't give up on getting them ready for first grade!! They've come such a long way already!
Outside of our academics, this week we will be talking about taking responsibility for our words, actions, and moods instead of blaming others or making excuses. Ask your child, "What does "taking responsibility" mean?"
We released our butterflies on Friday to fly free through the pollinator garden! It was a magical moment, although we will miss observing their metamorphosis each day. We are also currently engaged in a battle to keep our snapdragons alive on the big playground. Each day our 'botanist' is watering them in an effort to revive them after the hot weather. Every student will have the chance to be the botanist!
Weekly SIght Word Ideas
If your child has a lot of sight words left to memorize (check their sight word books coming home this week) then help them over the summer by picking two new words a week to learn. Remember to review those learned each time too. If your child can not read a sight word, give them the word then have them spell and say the word out loud in response. Don't overwhelm your child by learning too many sight words at a time, just stick to a couple each week.
