Group Brainstorm EduProtocol
from EduProtocols Field Guide by Hebern & Corippo
Description & Goals
Four students work side by side (or across the room) to generate ideas. The purpose is to get all students in a safe environment to generate free-flowing ideas.
Big Ideas (The WHY): Use a quiet brainstorm session, allowing all students to participate equally, create an environment where all ideas are accepted and considered, support all learners
Academic Goals:
Allow students to...
- "play" off ideas while allowing all students to contribute at the same time
- have a scaffolded experience through the support of their peers
- generate ideas quickly
Prepare
Step 1: Utilize the link below or edit to make it your own
Step 2: Share online with groups of 4 students
Instructions
Step 1: Define a brainstorming subject (ie why do you think the Colonists were unhappy with Britain?)
Step 2: Set a timer
Step 3: Allow students to silently brainstorm for the allotted time
Step 4: Students comment on each other's items without discussing aloud
Variation
You can also use with partners or trios instead of groups of fours.
