Hiawatha Elementary
Week of May 18th
Hello Husky Families-
I hope this newsletter continues to find you all healthy and well. We are entering the last couple of weeks of school and hope to make them the best we can. We appreciate all you are doing to help your child at home to keep up with their learning. We know this is a challenge for everyone and appreciate all your support.
Please see below for the schedule as to when you can pick up your child’s supplies, this will also include the yearbook and the 3rd-5th grade DVD if you purchased them earlier this year. We ask that you pull up in the front of the school, hold a sign up in your window with your child’s name and have your trunk open for us to put your supplies in your car. This will ensure social distancing and you will not have to leave your vehicle.
If you have any items to return to school (books, etc) we will have a bin to collect these items. If you are transferring out of Hiawatha School we ask that you fill out this FORM and we will have transfer papers ready for you at supply pickup. If you are leaving the district you will need to return your child’s iPad, messenger bag and charger. We thank you for making sure we have all 3 components.
Registration is open for all returning students for the 2020-2021 school year. Please log in and complete your child’s registration online. Please look for registration codes in your email and visit our website for additional information. In order to effectively plan for class sections for next school year, we ask that all returning students complete the online registration process by May 30. The entire process, including payment, can be completed online. If you prefer to pay in person at a later date, you will be able to select that option through the online registration process. All snap codes have been emailed out, please double check your spam/junk filter for these important emails.
Mark your calendar for our 5th grade Farewell. It has been planned for Wednesday May 27th at 6:00 p.m. At 5th grade supply pickup we will be giving all students the live link to tune in to watch the virtual 5th grade farewell on YouTube. We are sad that we can’t be together to honor our 5th graders and wish them well before they head to middle school, but promise our virtual ceremony will be just as memorable.
Remote Learning will continue Monday-Thursday next week. Friday is planning day for the teachers and no zoom calls will be held. Remember all assignments for the week are posted on Monday morning. It is very important that your child is completing these weekly assignments and joining their class on the weekly zoom meetings. This is how we are taking attendance and keeping connected to our students. Please let us know if you or your child need any support with remote learning.
As always, we are here to offer any support to you and your family. Please don’t hesitate to email us for any assistance you may need. Remember we are all in this together and will come out of this situation stronger than ever.
We look forward to continuing to see your students on their Zoom calls. We miss you all! Stay well!

Remote Learning Tips
Here are a few tips to help you as you create a new learning routine at home….
Set a schedule for your child to follow.
Find a quiet place for your child to sit and work without distractions such as toys, tv, etc.
Have your child wear headphones to help them with outside noises and help them stay focused.
School work does not need to be completed during the normal school hours. It is okay if the evening time is better for you and your child to work on school work together.
Most importantly remain flexible! This is new for everyone and will take some time for everyone to fall into a good routine.
A few independent activities that all students can work on without any adult assistance include the following:
Reading/listening to a book on MyOn or Epic
IXL practice
eSpark/DreamBox
Lexia
Journal writing
Coloring and putting puzzles together are great activities as well.
Kindergarten Registration 2020-2021
Returning Student Registration 1st-8th grade 2020-2021

Just a reminder that Comcast is offering free internet service through an offer that began last week. We encourage families without internet access to consider taking advantage of this offer.
Our staff is continuing to upload resources and activities to our PowerLearning pages and providing e-learning resources for our students to continue to learn at home. Reminder you can find your student’s classroom teacher by going on our website and clicking under Staff Directory to find their name and link. Here is the video tutorial link again if you need any support.
