Open House Overview and Expectations
- Students will not get their schedules in the gym area. We will post homeroom lists on the front of the school, and students will report directly to homeroom to get their schedule.
- All back to school paperwork and agendas will be given to homeroom teachers to sort and have ready for students to take home at open house.
- My recommendation regarding the above two items: Put each child's beginning of school paperwork, agenda (for 6th-7th), and student schedule on each desk/table setting in your classroom. This way, when students come to your homeroom for the schedule, usher them into your classroom, introduce yourself, meet the kid and family, then ask them to find their names and grab all their info. They will then have ALL paperwork to sign and return for the first day of school.
- If you do not have a homeroom, you will be asked to pair up with a HR teacher that is new to CMS to help them get their paperwork ready. Please smile and agree to help our team!
- Be kind to Jill as she will be making all these copies as quickly as possible to make this magic happen. :-)
- Ms. Brewer will have all open house directions and information in your boxes by Tuesday morning with some additional details.
- Some volunteers and cheerleaders will be available during open house to help people get around to where they need to go.
- All transportation questions will be in the cafeteria; all scheduling questions will be in the media center, and we will have folks available from school nutrition to field any questions about our new CEP opportunities for kids! (Free breakfast and lunch for ALL!!!)
- Regarding scheduling changes: we will not be going any schedule changes unless it involves adjustments to AMPS/ALPS, and all of those need to go through Mr. Lord, which is why he will be in the media center. We will not be making scheduling changes for elective classes.
- Our CMS student handbook will NOT be printed this year to save $$. Therefore, it's also not in the agenda. It will be available on our school webpage for students to download as we discuss our expectations with students.
- We are making some adjustments on how we collect the student fees at the beginning of the year, and we will get that info to you ASAP.
- Please wear your new staff shirts and black bottoms for open house.
- Please be at your classroom ready to go by 4pm. We will release all at 6:30pm through multiple announcements to thank parents for coming.
- You are expected to be at your classroom the entire time for open house. It is essential that we are customer service oriented. If you don't know an answer, take note, and simply tell the parent you will check with an administrator and someone will get back to them ASAP. Don't ever make promises you can't keep and simply say that we will find out and someone will get back to them before Monday. Easy peesy! (I would recommend having a parking lot designated for questions from parents OR keeping a notepad that you can collect any questions on, please! Whatever works best for your brain.)
- Keep in mind that not all grade level administrators will be able to wander - only Ms. Davis and Dr. T will have the ability to make rounds. Counselors will be in their grade level hallways as much as possible, too.
- It will be an awesome night!!!!!!! What a great way to start our school year!
