Fall Festival Adult Volunteers Needed!
- We need YOUR help! The OSS PVO is asking the OSS parents to sign up to volunteer and help at the Fall Festival on Friday, November 1st and Saturday AND/OR November 2nd. On Friday we need help during the day with receiving bake sale items at morning drop off, festival prep and starting at 6:00 pm with building one set up. On Saturday there will be donuts and coffee at 7am and you will receive a volunteer lunch voucher when you check in for your shift. Saturday has two shifts available plus early morning set up. If you are working the 2nd shift, come early to eat before your shift starts, the volunteer lunch room will close at 2:00pm. There is a ½- hour overlap to make sure that the post is not left vacant if the second shift is running late. We would appreciate any additional help for early set up at 7:00 am.
- Elementary OSS Parents, we also need coverage for the inflatables and have 4 (1.5 hour) shifts for each grade level. Please consider helping supervising one of those shifts so we can keep the inflatables open all day. These shifts have been added to the Elementary School Adult Volunteer sign up page.
- Treasure Chest donation boxes are at the front desk of your building. These are to collect unwanted giveaways and trinkets you have around the house for prizes for our free games. The children play select games for Free and collect tickets to redeem at the Treasure Chest tent. This is our budget relieving gift for the parents.
- Also please consider donating to our Bake Sale. We are accepting home baked or store bought desserts to compliment our lunch menu. OCPS rules are listed on the sign up page and non perishable donations can be dropped off the Friday morning before.
All the three sign ups can be found on the same Sign Up page. Click on the tab at the top of the page that corresponds with your campus and please sign up for multiple times. The PVO appreciates your support.

Model UN Conference
FHSMUN Gulf Coast Conference
On October 12th and 13th, four of our students competed in the FHSMUN Gulf Coast conference, where they had the opportunity to represent Belgium in several delegations. Ranging in tasks related to the Libyan Crisis and Cyber Crime, our delegates performed admirably and in a professional manner that should make OSS proud!
It was a valuable learning experience for our three freshmen delegates, Ricardo F., Hayden R. and Alex M., as this was the first high school conference that they participated in. Our Junior Delegate, Alexis D., received the “Most Outstanding Delegate” award for her hard work! The next conference will be in Sarasota on December 7th, and we are still looking for more delegates. Any student that is interested may join Political Olympiad, which meets in room 331 (Mr. Beltramo’s Room) on Mondays and Fridays during club time.
Model UN Festival
OSHS students had a blast supporting Political Olympiad and Model UN at their Model UN Day today! Students played Flag Pong, guessed at Political Plinko Trivia, raced each other in pie eating contests and enjoyed snacks from around the world.

30/30 Dismissal Rule
What is Delayed Dismissal? 30/30 Rule?
The “30/30 Rule" is a Delayed Dismissal Weather procedure that the nationally recognized. It is required that the “30/30 Rule” be enacted by the school if thunder is heard within 30 seconds of a lightning strike. Orlando Science Middle/High follows this rule.
When 30/30 Rule is implemented, students will not be dismissed until 30 minutes has passed from the last sound of thunder. However, parents/guardians who wish to pick up their child/children during delayed dismissal, will be allowed to sign out their child/children at the cafeteria or front office.
In order to pick up your student(s) from the cafeteria or front office during this procedure, parents/guardians must bring their dismissal sign to the front door of the school to sign their child/children out. If you do not have a dismissal sign, you will need to provide a picture ID and be on the school pick-up list to pick-up the child/children. Bus riders will be delivered home when conditions are all safe for dismissal.
An automated telephone and/or email message will be used to notify parents/guardians about delayed dismissals. Always be sure to update the school when your phone or email information changes. Thank you for your cooperation on our students’ safety.
