The TIGER Times
Yamhill Carlton High School
Week of March 11-16
Being principal of a high school is one of the best jobs ever!! First off, never are there two days alike or are the days uneventfu when you have 285 adolescents in one building. What is most exciting is seeing the many creative learning opportunities teachers have designed for our students.
Just this past week, Advanced English students in Mrs. McKinney's class were involved in the Big Brother Project where students were involved in a simulation that extended over several days in connection to their reading of the novel 1984. Across the hall in Mrs. Henry's Advanced English class students had worked in small groups creating their Great Gatsby Cake . Students were asked to demonstrate theme, plot, setting, and color symbolism using a cake. (see pictures below) I was able to see a video from Ms. Hartman's class where students were competing in a drag race with hydrogen fuel cell cars. Mr. McKinney's Veteran's Legacy class brings in World War II Veterans so our students can learn directly from those who served.
My point? We have great learning going on in this building and I love sharing it with you.
Again, if you received progress reports this past week and have questions and/or your student says I don't know why I have that grade, contact your student's teacher via emai and I know they will be glad to assist you.
Take care,
Cindy Schubert
YCHS Accreditation-
On April 4 & 5, Yamhill Carlton High School will be going through the Northwest Schools Accreditation process which is required to maintain our accreditation status. The accreditation team will be evaluating us on a number of school quality factors through data and input from parents, students, staff and administration. We are looking forward to meeting the standards for accreditation as well as determining areas needing improvement.
One way you can assist us is by clicking on and completing the survey below. As you complete this very short survey, you might wonder if questions are relevant for parents. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to change this tool, so please do the best you can.
Again, the survey is very short...and we are hoping to get as many parents/guardians as possible completing it because we really do care what you think!! Don't wait, click below. Thank you!
Thank you Leadership!!
