The first isolated incident of West Nile Virus was in Northern Uganda in 1937. The first recorded epidemic of West Nile Virus was in Israel in 1951 in the small town of Haifa where 123 people were infected with no death in a village of 303 people. The first case of West Nile Virus in the U.S. was in New York City in 1999.

Vaccination and Treatment

Their are no specific medications to treat West Nile Virus and their are no vaccinations to prevent West Nile Virus. Pain killers can be given to the patient to help reduce the fever and treat some mild symptoms. In some severe causes patients need to be hospitalized to receive further treatment such as intravenous fluids and nursing care.
