Hagood Highlights
August 23, 2021
RISE UP
Once again, we are faced with times of uncertainty that none of us anticipated. We select a theme each year to also share with our students. Hagood's faculty and staff, and students began this year with the mindset of RISE UP. We knew we were all facing the challenge of RISING UP and are committed to making this a phenomenal school year.
Beginning Monday, August 23, some things are going to look and feel different. We still have HOPE for a promising school year despite our situation. We believe in the power of people, strong relationships, and teamwork. We must come together, and we know our students need face-to-face instruction.
How can you help us go above and beyond?
- Consider wearing masks - they are highly encouraged and were helpful last year. We have a supply of masks in the office if your children need them.
- Practice social distancing.
- Wash hands... use hand sanitizer.... play outside rather than inside.
- We are finding many positive cases involve sinus and cold symptoms. If your child has these symptoms, please keep them home. Remember, they have to be fever-free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication.
- Build immune systems by getting plenty of rest, eating well, and exercising.
We are excited to be back face-to-face and are committed to remaining that way!
Please let us know if you have questions, how we can help, etc.

Health and Safety
Our district and school are committed to doing everything they can to provide a clean, safe, and healthy environment for our students and staff. Here are just a few things that we are doing to ensure this environment.
- Foaming hand sanitizer stations in each classroom.
- Sanitizing spray bottles have been purchased along with spray guns that can disinfect surfaces and larger areas like classrooms.
- Water fountains will be closed. The district purchased hands-free water bottle refilling stations that students may use to refill water bottles.
- Posters and other window and floor signage indicating social distancing will be used.
- Masks are encouraged.
- Students in elementary school will be placed in cohorts, groups of students like a homeroom, that they will remain in for core academic classes, related arts, lunch, and recess.
- Students will utilize class bathrooms if possible and will be asked to wash their hands before and after entering the restroom.
- Gang bathrooms will be used for washing hands before and after transitions, such as lunch and recess. A schedule has been created to prevent students from congregating in the hallway.
- Arrival and dismissal procedures allow for more social distancing. Buses will be loaded by number in the afternoon to maintain social distancing for students and prevent congregating in hallways.
ARRIVAL
- Outside doors will open at 7:30 am. No drop off is allowed before 7:30 a.m. Students dropped off at the red, orange, and the yellow cone will enter one door (near the cafeteria). Students dropped off at green, the blue and purple cone will enter one door (near the front office). Safety patrols and HES staff will help direct students.
- Students will go straight to their homeroom classrooms.
- The tardy bell rings at 8:00 and students will be considered tardy after 8:00. After 8:00, students should enter through the front door.
