Henking School Newsletter

Welcome back!

Our transition back from winter break has been incredibly smooth! Last week, we had a virtual assembly to welcome back our Henking Hawks and we introduced our new school-wide incentive plan! Students know that when they are caught following our Guidelines for Success, they can be given a "good egg" for our Hawk House. Once our Hawk House is full, we will celebrate with an all-school spirit day!

To further reinforce our schoolwide expectations and Guidelines for Success, classroom teachers took time to review how to be successful throughout the school day and on the bus! We also took some time to practice our Guidelines for Success in the hallways, bathrooms, at arrival and dismissal, and during lunch and recess!

Reinforcing our Guidelines for Success at home will help us achieve our goals. Below, find a poster that we use at school for you to use at home.

Note from the Nurse

Henking families,

This winter, we have been seeing students with flu, ear infections, and stomach bugs. Thank you for keeping kids home when they are sick. Giving them time to rest and recuperate creates the best learning environment. When you keep sick kids home they aren’t spreading germs and helping keep classrooms healthy. Informing me of symptoms and illness helps us keep track of what is spreading in the classrooms.

As a reminder, children with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea need to stay home until they are symptom free for a full 24 hours, without medication.

An estimated 6 to 12 million lice infestations occur each year in the United States, most commonly among children ages 3 to 11. Check your child’s head for lice if you see them scratching or if they mention an itchy head. If you have any concerns feel free to reach out and I can also do a lice check for your child. As always, remind your child not to share any hats or clothing.

If live lice are detected at school, the child does not need to be sent home. They must be treated before returning to school. The child must be checked in the health office upon return to school. If there are live lice, the child must go home. If there are nits, the child may stay in school. Let me know if you need any assistance or have questions about lice. Mascot & Logo Survey for Henking Students

You may have seen the parent survey from the District on updating the logos for our schools. Of course, student input is very important too -- especially from those students with a long future ahead in D34! Please open this link and ask your child to give their input. If you have more than one child at Henking, go back and do it again! Students in grades 3-8 received an email directly to take the survey. The survey will be open until January 20.
