Principal's Message
As I walked in this morning there could be no doubt that the seasons are changing. Cool breezes and a little rain in the air and we know that fall is most definitely upon us. With the trun of the seasons comes a turn in the school year - we are past the opening weeks, we have completed our first set of progress conferences and we are entering into the heart of the school year.
As we progress through our year, as a school team we have identified Student Engagement as the heart of our school growth plan for 2022/23. We have identified three different ways of quantifying engagement in our school: We will monitor attendance and tardiness as students cannot be engaged if they are not in-classes and on-time. We want our students to feel honored and cared for in the school environment and are using a series of surveys and focus groups to track student connectedness. Finally, we will track classroom engagement by monitoring academic growth across the year on the ACT and PreACT exam. We believe that we will see growth in all of these areas as our students become more engaged in our school community.
In the coming months I will use this space to highlight our work in these areas and share some of the strategies we are working on to help support our students in becoming more engaged and more successful in school. We are thinking in both traditional and unconventional ways to identify ways to continue to build the relationships and connections that are so essential to each students’ growth and success. Thank you for your continued support and partnership and, even though it is a little chilly out there, it’s always A GREAT DAY TO BE A HAWK!
Mr. Todd Willems, Principal
Take Note...
Cell Phone Policy
As a staff, we have identified Student Engagement as our school’s targeted growth goal for this year. In doing so, we are working in many different ways to help understand and improve engagement in our building. Currently, the largest challenge to student engagement is the use of personal electronic devices, particularly cell phones and earbuds/AirPods.
To ensure that families are aware of the expectations, and can support conversations around them at home, we wanted to take another opportunity to share the policy and procedures with you. Please read this letter that Mr. Willems previously sent to all families, which describes our school and district policies for electronic devices at school.
Attendance
When reporting a student's absence, please follow one of these two options.
Call our attendance line at 414-281-6200 and press option 1. Please speak clearly and spell the student’s last name when leaving a message.
Download our Infinite Campus Parent Portal, log into your account, click on More in the bottom left hand corner, and then click on Absence Request. Choose the student you wish to report an absence for and click on the dropdown to choose the reason and add any additional comments before hitting submit.
(You will need an access code if this is your first time logging into the parent portal. Contact our District Office at 414-855-2050 or the main office at 414-281-6200 to obtain that code.)
