Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
Engaged Families Build Community
What a great Homecoming despite all of the rain!! I was so proud to be leading Grandview as I watched the children marching so proudly on behalf of their organization that they are able to do thanks to their parent's support. It was great to see the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Poms, and all of the Grandview families walking in the rain to support our school. Thanks for being involved and engaged in your child's life!
Speaking of parent engagement, I am going to be adding ways that you all can be engaged in your child's educational career in Grandview. After school activities is a way, but there are many others ways. I want to hi-light parent engagement because raising the next generation is a shared responsibility. When families, communities and schools work together, students are more successful and the entire community benefits. For schools and districts across the U.S., family engagement is becoming an integral part of education reform efforts.
Another way that you can be engaged is to join Grandview's Principal's Advisory Team. It is a committee that meets monthly from 4-4:45 and is run by myself and has about ten teachers on the committee. We will be discussing school initiatives and start mapping out where we want to go, as a building. If you are interested in this committee, please email me. I would love to have two to three parents.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the Fall Festival this Friday night.
Your Proud Principal,
Melissa Carruth, Ed.S

Bookflix for Grandview Families
The Michigan eLibrary did not renew their subscription to Bookflix. We found great value in this site for our children. Therefore, Grandview purchased a school subscription that allows teachers and students to use the following username and password to access Bookflix at home and at school. Please feel free to use this at home. The link is as follows.....
https://digital.scholastic.com/site/launch/bkflix?ucn=600063987
There is a link on the Library symbaloo and will be putting a link under the student links on the Clarenceville website.

Password: flix
If you click on the apple and book in the top right corner, it takes you to a Resources and Tools page where you can search for books, search by themes, running times and grade levels.
This is another way to engage your students with their learning at home.
Enjoy!!!
FOG Run
Student Council Friday's
Student Council Friday's are starting. Students can participate in these fun days by donating $1. Money is for the Holidays and families in need. These days and money are a huge part of the Holiday time shopping we do for our Grandview Families. We have helped over 50 families last year.
October 19th: Gum Day
October 26th: Stuffed Animal Day
Pink Out Store
With the arrival of October Team Gibson/Terpack will be opening the Pink Out Store. Suckers and other items will be sold to raise money for Karmanos Cancer Center. The store will be set up in the main hallway by the office and will be student run. This store will be starting on Tuesday.
Family in Need Assistance
In the office are applications and envelopes for "families in need" to complete for help around the holidays and for other resources. We want to help you and provide assistance to you and to your family. If you are unable to get to the office, please contact the office, myself, or the classroom teachers and we will send the application home with your child. This is for families that live in Farmington, Livonia or Redford.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Meetings are underway for both of these great organizations. Girl Scouts will be meeting on Wednesdays and Boy Scouts will be meeting on Mondays at 6:30. Come join the fun!
Transportation Changes
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!
Job Opportunity
Volunteering at School
Free Breakfast and Lunch
Emergency Cards and Transportation Forms
Household Survey Form
We are getting their with the schools household survey forms and we need 100% completion!! Please ask your teacher if you need another copy. We are asking that you fill out and sign the Household Information Survey (one per family), which is needed for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility. This survey allows our school to benefit from various State and Federal supplemental programs, like Title I A, At Risk (31a), Title II A, E- Rate, etc. This survey is critical in determining the amount of money the school receives from a variety of supplemental programs. Programs, such as our Intervention program, including teachers and paraprofessionals and student support coaches could be lost if these surveys are not completed. We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible, but no later than September 14. All information on the survey submitted is confidential. Without your assistance, the school cannot maximize utilization of available State and Federal funds. I would like them all turned in by THIS FRIDAY!!
Box Tops
Now is the time to turn in all of the Box Tops you have saved over the summer including all of the Back to School Bonus Box Tops. Please send them to school in a baggie and give them to your child’s teacher. The class will the most Box Tops collected will win a prize!
WE ARE LOOKING FOR A BOX TOPS VOLUNTEER!
Please let the office know if you can volunteer your time to count Box Tops. THANK YOU!
