'Tis Flu Season (along with other things)
Here are some tips to stay as healthy as possible:
· WASH, WASH, WASH YOUR HANDS! Wash using soap and warm water as this is still the best defense.
· Get plenty of rest.
· Drink lots of fluids and eat a balanced diet - especially breakfast!
· Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow, not your hand. Hands spread germs!
Unfortunately, even with the best care, sometimes kids get sick. Please keep in mind the guidelines below when deciding if your child should come to school:
DO NOT send a sick child to school for the school nurse to decide whether they should be in school.If in doubt, call your family physician. School nurses can assess and refer, but we do not diagnose, and will always refer to your physician if in doubt. Any child with the following symptoms should stay home:
- A fever 100 degrees or higher. A child should not come back to school until the temperature is normal for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication {Tylenol/Motrin/Advil/Acetaminophen/Ibuprofen/etc.}
- Vomiting or diarrhea—even one time at home. Students need to tolerate a regular diet without stomach medications before they can return to school.
- A frequent cough with fever
- Any rash accompanied by a fever
- Ear pain and/or eye drainage
- Sore throat with a fever and/or rash
If you have a change in address or phone number, remember to contact the school office. It is very important to be able to reach you in the event your child becomes ill or injured at school.
Here’s to a Safe and HEALTHY season!
President’s Day Camp at LPS
LPS is partnering with NuMinds Enrichment to host a camp on our secondary campus on Monday, February 18 (President’s Day and student holiday). The theme is Mars Mission 2030 – the colonization process of a potential future human home. LPS families receive a special price of $65 (a $10 discount on registration).
The challenges presented during this camp parallel existing plans and missions performed by NASA and the Mars One program. This will be a force to awaken passion in any student who can’t stop thinking about the possibilities of space exploration or dreaming of discoveries yet to be made. The engaging, narrative-drive challenges have been adapted from NuMinds’ very own Maker Space with one of their academic partners, so each has been tested, refined, and improved to create the most enriching experience possible. See the picture below for more information, and go to numindsenrichment.com/leadership-prep-2030 to register.
