Report Cards
Report cards are going out in the mail early next week, and you can expect them at home shortly thereafter. Two things to note about report cards:
- The district will be using a new report card form starting this year. You can learn more about it here, and if you have any questions about the report card once you get it, please check in with your child's teacher.
- Because of the limited school time in November, please expect to see a sparcer report card than you'd typically see at the end of the first quarter. Our teachers have had less time with your children so far this year, so the number of standards they've had a chance to teach are fewer. (It also means that comments will be less robust than they typically are.)
Conferences
I plan to share the rescheduled dates for conferences in my next newsletter (December 8).
FOSOC Potluck
We have rescheduled our next Families of Students of Color (FOSOC) potluck for Monday, December 18, 5:30-7:00. Bring a dish...or not! We plan to talk about culturally-specific events, so please try to attend if you want to be a part of the conversation.
December Lunch Servers
Thank you to everyone who has been able to help serve lunch in the cafeteria so far this school year! December sign ups are now open - CLICK HERE to sign up! Interested in helping out? Start by becoming a PPS-approved volunteer here.
Winter Term After-School Classes and Scholarships
The Winter Term after school class offerings are now available! See all the offerings and learn more at www.irvingtonschool.com/afterschool/ or check the handout coming home with your student today. Registration will open next Monday, December 4, at 6pm.
Students on free/reduced lunch can apply for a scholarship for one after school class each term! Scholarship applications can be found online here, and paper copies can be found at the front office. Applications can be filled out anytime and are due no later than Friday, December 8, at 3:30pm.
Girls on the Run
The amazing program Girls on the Run will be returning to Irvington this spring! We are currently recruiting coaches. You do NOT need to be a marathon runner, have any interest in wearing spandex, or flex strong calves to be a coach! You just need an interest in helping girls learn to love themselves and their bodies. The program will be 10 weeks, Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 19 to May 30 (with one week off for Spring Break). Each practice is 3:00-4:45pm. Coaches are guaranteed a spot for their child in the program. Please email Carolyn Sykes (csykes@pps.net) if you are interested in being a Girls on the Run coach this spring. Student registration information will be available soon.

Past activities have included bowling, obstacle courses, community-building games, soccer, floor hockey, parachute, kids vs. adults games, and more.
Enter through the gym doors at the back of the school. Knock loudly when you arrive. Please come by any time during open hours. All kids should have a supervising adult present. Questions? Email familynight@irvingtonschool.com.

The Multi-layer Plastics recycling collection has been rescheduled to December 13 to coincide with the Winter Recycling Event.
Multi-layer plastics include frozen food bags, crunchy plastic food bags, chip bags, thin wrappers with a shiny lining, candy wrappers, and more. Please shake or wipe out any crumbs, and if you need to wash something to get it clean, please make it sure it is completely dry. The Winter Recycling Event has been expanded this year to collect more items. Some highlights are styrofoam, light bulbs, empty Rx bottles, batteries, electronics, holiday string lights.
Plan to bring all your recycling listed above to the blacktop at drop off or pick up on Wednesday, December 13.
