Weekly Message
Thanks for your active engagement during the math lesson studies! And a special thank you to 5th grade for letting me improve my conferring practice! Kris, I am so sorry I messed up your students' fractions learning. Hopefully you can fix my errors. I really enjoyed learning alongside each of the teams this week. It was fun to watch you engage your learners and to increase your collective efficacy. I really appreciated the slides that Gus shared about the 5 categories of conferring nudges. Those categories helped me get a lot of information when I circled the classroom studying the students for 5 minutes before I engaged anyone for a conference. That observation time made my conferring more intentional and focused on what students needed in the moment. I hope you took away some nuggets you can use right away in your teaching.
I have included a video by Kid President. I hope you will take a few moments to remember Dr. King this weekend and think about your dreams for your students and for yourselves. Enjoy your 3-day weekend.

Report Card Reminders
The end of the semester is fast approaching and we have some changes in grading and reporting this year. As you know, BSD is transitioning to electronic report cards for all students. These will be accessed through ParentVue (mobile and desktop). Jane, Yvett, and Vicki have been working to make sure all parents are signed up for ParentVue. I am including a link to the district website because it has information and screen shots for families to find out how to access their student's report card on ParentVue. It would be good to send it out in your communication too.
Please remember, Grading Day is January 27th. All grades must be completed and loaded into Synergy by the end of the work day on January 31st. That is a change from year's past when you could take them home over the weekend for one last check. IT will start posting elementary report cards to ParentVue at 4:00 on the 31st so they will be available on Monday morning, February 3rd.

Also, in my PLC on Thursday, we noticed that there is a new requirement that if you are giving a student a 1 in an area, you need to make sure you include a goal for the student in the comments. In reading, it could be an IRLA goal or something from a UOS sticky note, in math there are goals on the sociomathematical norms document. Hopefully if a student is receiving a 1, you have mentioned the struggles to parents at conferences or in another communication so it's not a surprise. We will talk about this more at staff meeting, but if you have questions, please email me.
MS should be getting a guidance document for Synergy from Kirk.
Let's Taco 'Bout Math Night - SAVE THE DATE
The attendance committee has planned a math game night for families which will take place on April 12th from 6-7:30. We'd love to have staff show up and mingle with families. There will also be free tacos for you from Raul's. The night is planned, there's nothing to do but be there and have fun playing math games. Our families love to see you!
