Bristol Township School District
TIGER STRONG: Empowered, Engaged, Inspired
Message from the Superintendent
Happy New Year BTSD! I hope your 2022 is off to a great start. As we navigate rising COVID cases and inclement winter weather, I wanted to share some information with you in this newsletter, in addition to all the positive stories found in our district. Stay safe and healthy!
- Melanie Gehrens, Superintendent of Schools
What are Flexible Instruction Days? (FID)
When the District utilizes a FID, due to inclement weather or an emergency such as a power outage, a FID allows students to complete learning activities and assignmentes remotely instead of in school. Learn more about FID here.
School Board Reorganization
On December 6, 2021,the School Board of Directors welcomed one newly-elected School Board Director, Mary Sharble, and two re-elected School Board Directors: Kellie A. Buchanan and James P. Morgan III. The Board elected James P. Morgan III as President and Barbara Bill as Vice President. Along with the election and re-elections, longtime board member, Gallus Obert, was appointed to the Board December 16 due to a vacancy.
Congratulations to all, and thank you for your dedication and willingness to serve on the Bristol Township School Board!
New Fleetplow Snow Scraper "Big Bird" in Action
Dubbed "Big Bird," the BTSD Transportation Department has added a new tool to its arsenal to help keep our students and staff safe. This past summer, the School Board approved the purchase of the Fleetplow Snow Scraper. This past Friday, 'Big Bird' was put into action as the transportation team was hard at work clearing our district bus fleet in the early morning hours.
Transportation Coordinator, Traci Williams, said the district operates over 100 vehicles on a daily basis. This machine dramatically cuts down on the amount of time needed to clear the buses of up to 24" of snow and at the same time reduces risks and injuries to our employees. Additionally, it makes the commute safer for both drivers and students by clearing off the roof of each bus before they head out on the road.
A special thanks to the BTSD Transportation Department for all of their hard work and keeping our school year moving along!
