Union Elementary Weekly Update
March 9, 2018
First graders used the eagle eyes to spot signs of spring outdoors.
Mrs. Magoni's fourth graders utilized the materials they received from PTO student grants to create blankets for those in need.
Miss Indiana spoke with all students about how to set and achieve their goals.
Be The Best You Can Be
Pre-School through Second grade students welcomed Blue of the Indianapolis Colts for a convocation. The program expressed the importance of having a healthy and balanced diet, being physically active for 60 minutes a day, being kind, and working hard in the classroom.
Third Grade students were proud to see their hard work on display! The specialty animals they created in art are ready for all to see!
Thank you to PTO for providing our winning classes with a special convocation with Boomer from the Indianapolis Pacers.
Be The Best You Can Be
- To all of our first responders. Today and every day, we thank you for your service to our community and for keeping us safe.

The Kendra Scott Jewelry pull was the hit of the Soiree...along with the band, the auction, the class competition and some parents rapping...but, the jewelry pull. The bags went fast, but that's OK, Kendra Scott has generously offered a Union PTO shopping night at the Keystone at the Crossing Store. 20% of the profits during the event on March 28 will come right back to your Union PTO. So if you didn't get what you wanted at the pull, need something to match what was in your bag or missed it all together, March 28 is your chance.

If you already have a Kroger card simply hop on your computer and follow these easy steps…
1.) Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
2.) Click on “Kroger Community Rewards”
3.) Click on “View your rewards details”
4.) Scroll to “Community Rewards” and click “Edit”

Background Check Information
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS
We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.
- Field Trip Chaperones
- Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
- Volunteer Coaches
- Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
- Library Helpers
- After Prom Workers
- Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
- Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.
- Lunch Guests
- Classroom Guest Speakers
- Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
