Operation Gratitude a SWEET success
8th grade celebration meeting
Positivity Project - Gratitude
Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness. A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a “relationship-strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we’ve been supported and affirmed by other people.”
Gratitude is sometimes resisted, especially in more self-sufficient and independent cultures, due to not wanting to experience a sense of indebtedness. However, gratitude is less about feeling indebted and more about being aware of the consideration, kindness, and generosity of others. It’s also important to note that gratitude is not about ignoring the negative aspects of life; it’s simply being aware of and thankful for what is good.
Friends and Fun Night
Please be prompt in picking up your child at 9:00 pm. Mr. Larsen and I like to enjoy a couple minutes with our families as well :). Students with the last name A - L should be picked up in the front of the building, while students with the last name M - Z should be picked up on the bus loop side of the building. This allows for an easier, not so clogged dismissal.
Gift card drive
Mrs. Gaberdiel, our counselor, will be collecting new, unused gift cards from November 26 —December 10, 2018 to be donated to the Lions Club. The Lions Club provides resources for Lake Orion families in need, and it is time for us to give back to them. If you have gift cards laying around that you are not going to use or if you can pick one up in any denomination please consider donating it to a great cause (please write the amount on the card).
There will be a collection box in the main office. We accept any variety of gift cards (restaurants, clothing stores, fast food, Target/Meijer, etc.). Thank you so very much!
Book Drive
Do you have outgrown or unread books clogging up your shelves at home? You can put those books into the hands of young readers by donating them to the annual Lake Orion book drive! Simply bring ANY used or new books, from infant to adult, to the collection bin at your child's school. Staff will collect and sort donations and Preschool through 12th grade teachers will be invited to select books for classroom use. Books not adopted into classrooms will be donated to local literacy programs. Our book drive has placed thousands of books in to the hands of Lake Orion students over the years! Bring books anytime now through November 28. Thank you and happy reading!
