Principal's Message

Dear Henry Ford Families,

We are looking ahead to a bright return after Spring break after finalizing details this coming week. We are all set! We also just finished the second trimester parent/teacher optional conferences last week. Thank you to those who were contacted by their child’s teacher and met to discuss their child's academic progress. We all have a collective effort to communicate, set goals, and support all of our students.

Students returning to school on April 8, for In-Person Teaching and Learning were sent an invitation last week to attend an optional Orientation session on School Safety Procedures and Protocols. The sessions will be held in small groups by grade levels here at School. If you haven't had a chance to reply, and your child will be starting on April 8, here is the link. Please respond by 5:00 PM on Monday, March 22.

As a reminder for this week, we have two minimum days. Tuesday is a super minimum day because of Teacher Professional Development. Teachers will end instruction at 11:45 AM. However, students' work day will continue as usual with asynchronous work. Friday, March 26, is a regular minimum day; school will end at 1:30 PM.

We hope you and your family enjoy special time together over Spring Break to rest and rejuvenate. Some family ideas may be bike riding, hiking, playing soccer, reading outdoors, board game playing, playing cards, reading for pleasure, visiting the local Bay trails and much more! We live in an amazing area so if your schedule allows, we should take advantage of good weather!

If you are interested in academic activities during Spring Break for your child, we encourage you to have your child practice on their own with their adaptive learning programs such as Dreambox, Imagine Learning, or iReady LA and/or Math on their chromebook.

On another note, I feel it's time to move forward with some planning and visioning for the rest of this year and next year 2021-2022. Therefore, I would like to organize a new Committee which I will refer to as the Principal's Advisory Committee (PAC). This committee can help problem solve and work through ideas that can be shared with the School Site Council, the PTA, the School staff and me as we plan more efficiently for the needs of the School in a variety of areas. Please read below in the subsequent sections for further information and if you might qualify and be interested in being part of the PAC team.

And finally, may I wish you all a wonderful break. When we return on April 5, our teachers and School staff will be making final preparations to welcome more of our students to school.

Enjoy your Holiday Spring Break!

Principal's Advisory Committee (PAC)

As I reflect on the challenges that started last year from March 2020, to the present, I see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is a prime opportunity to come together now more than ever to be reflective and continue to build our community and provide our students the best learning environment under our current circumstances and to look ahead for a bright future. I feel we need to optimize these remaining few months of school and plan for the start of 2021-2022. I would like to organize what I will refer to as the Principal's Advisory Committee (PAC). I look forward to the collaboration and to rely on the viewpoints of our parents and staff to make the best possible educational environment for our students.

OUR FIRST VIRTUAL READ ALOUD WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!

With nearly a hundred students, their siblings, and families listening to our many teachers read some of their favorite stories, everyone seemed to have an enjoyable experience last Thursday night. It was a fun evening listening to all the stories. It was also a lot of fun seeing everyone on camera . . . . . . . . . See some of the participants' pictures below. Let's do it again!

Big picture

MARCH MADNESS - Last Week - Crazy Hat Wednesday!

It’s our LAST WEEK of March Madness! Students and teachers have the chance to win a prize from their favorite PE+ program, and this week coaches want to see some CRAZY HATS on screen at the beginning of their LIVE Session!

How does it work?

Wednesday, 3/24, have your class join the live Wednesday session! The top 2 classrooms from each school in the District that have the most crazy hats win a PE+ March Madness T-Shirt for each student! Teachers from that classroom will also be gifted a $25 Amazon gift card!

What are the CRAZY HAT criteria?

  • A hat or some type of headband that is worn on the PE+ kid's head
Creativity preferred, decorated hats (with parent permission) are encouraged - it cannot be a plain baseball hat

When do my students need to log in?

Wednesday, 3/24, coaches will be asking students to show their CRAZY HATS at the very start of class! Look at the Wednesday Live Schedule below for your class time and zoom link!

How will they track participation?

  • Zoom Report based on individual logins
  • Hats on the screen that are visible
  • FIRST AND LAST NAME of students on the screen to compare to rosters given to PE+ at the beginning of the year (if there are any updates - we ask teachers to please email peonline@wearepcc.com)

How will I know if I won?

A member from our PE+ team will contact the teacher via email with the subject line "March Madness Winner - Crazy Hat Challenge!", and they will include what you can expect from each classroom.

Additional Information:

  • Prizes will be distributed the week after Spring Break.
  • Rosters were given to the coaches at the beginning of the year; if for any reason your roster has been updated or may be missing someone from the class, please email the coaches at: peonline@wearepcc.com before Wednesday, 3/24.
