What's Happening this Week?
OPES Veteran's Day Parade
Tuesday, Nov. 11th, 1pm

You are invited to our Veteran's Day Parade! It is planned for 1:00 on Tuesday, November the 11th. Please plan on lining up along Hugh Street to watch the parade!
America Recycles Day!
We are nearing the conclusion of our colonization unit. We will finish up with indentured servitude and slavery. Students will review for quiz on Wednesday and we will have a test on Thursday.
Soup & A Story
We plan on having a "Soup and a Story" event before we go home for the Thanksgiving Break. I will send more information out soon.
Students finished quiz on weather on Friday. Our next unit will be Light & Electricity. This week students will look at the basic properties of light: brightness, made up of colors, travels in straight line, can be refracted, and so forth.

Multiplication strategies become our next area of focus. On Monday, we will look at how solving area and perimeter problems transition into multiplication. I will review the standard algorithm of two-digit by single-digit multiplication. We will continue to look at alternate strategies to solve problems as well, such as: lattice multiplication, area models, partial products, and so forth.
This week we will finish the mythology section of Jacob's Ladder. We will move into the next unit which is poetry analysis. I will have students begin to look at figurative language and elements of poetry for the next couple of weeks.
This week we will compose a concluding paragraph for our opinion writing piece. Students will then begin to explore poetry during writing. We will look at a variety of types of poems, such as: found poetry, diamante, cinquain, haiku, and so forth.
Students will be assigned letter grades/percentage grades. The following is a breakdown:
- A = 93-100
- B = 85-92
- C = 77-84
- D = 70-76
- F = 76

- Test = 100
- Projects = 100
