Welcome Back CLES Families
School Year 17-18
To the CLES Community
Dear CLES Families,
Summer has been a wonderful time to reflect, recharge and simply, relax! Mrs. Lynam and I hope you all have enjoyed this time with family, friends and loved ones. Mrs. Lynam looks forward to meeting our families and getting to know our students!
Every summer brings an opportunity to reflect on the successes and areas for improvement from the year before. As we read the parent survey results, collaborated with our PTA/Staff and listened to the positive message of our new superintendent, our leaders developed our vision for the upcoming year. As you can see from our visual for next year, an area we most want to spend time building is our relationships…..relationships with students, as a staff and with our community. At the heart of great success is great relationships. Over the last couple of years, we have built the foundation, and now we would like to deepen our understanding of our community's needs. Let’s build an inspiring, empowering and engaging school together. ”Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” (Ms. Helen Keller)
As part of our focus on relationships, we will be working with the PTA and teacher leaders to bring your voices, student voices and staff voices together to understand more completely our needs, concerns and develop positive solutions. Community circles is one way in which we will provide a forum for all voices to be heard. A circle is said to represent wholeness, completeness and inclusion. All voices are heard and an understanding is developed. We look forward to exploring community circles together this year! More information on these forums will be coming.
Working with our teacher leaders, we will be planning for our year ahead. Before school starts, the leadership team will be reviewing and reflecting on the Consistency of Practice Agreements that we have developed over the last few years. Together, our dedicated leaders will help refine and streamline these agreements. Our goal is to always provide time for reflection on how our structures and practices are meeting our needs as a school and a community.
Over the last two years, our focus has been on the Daily Five and Guided Reading. These will continue to be an integral part of our instructional program. However, this year we are moving towards a deeper understanding of mathematics. Our professional learning community will be focused around the book “Putting Practices Into Action.” Our math support teacher and our reading support teacher will take the new learning from this year and last, and help teams collaboratively plan on a bi-weekly basis.
Based on feedback from the related arts, their monthly meetings will focus half the year on Canvas and the other half of the year on using Community Circles in their classrooms.
Summer for us always brings a slower pace and the joy that slowing down provides us all. Although I am always sad to see it go, I love the excitement and energy that a brand new year brings. This is one of the best parts of education…..new beginnings, new ideas and new celebrations! Mrs. Lynam and I are ready to join together with you to plan a year that empowers, engages and inspires our eager students!
Sincerely,
Amanda Wadsworth, Principal & Alayna Lynam, Assistant Principal
How will I find out my child’s teacher for the upcoming school year?
Due to changes in confidentiality practices, class lists are no longer posted outside of any HCPSS school. Parents will be able to find out their child’s teachers by logging into HCPSS Connect on Thursday, August 31st and will receive an email from their homeroom teacher. Please be sure to update your Family File from this date but before the morning of August 31st in order to receive this information. Our teachers will be using the emails from the Family File. Even if you do not have any information to update from last year, please attempt to log in to make sure you remember your username and password. If not, there is an option to reset it through the online system. Please review the emergency contacts, phone numbers, and email addresses to be sure they are current and correct. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. The safety of your children is our first priority.
