We would like to highlight what student activities are offered in the CTE programs in our high schools.
For the Class of 2022, Oregon high school students completing two credits in an approved CTE Program of Study significantly exceeded the statewide average, graduating at a rate of 93.0 percent. Through CTE programs, learners are provided the opportunity to find their passion through learning experiences that mirror the real world.
In Tualatin High's culinary program, students in the Culinary Arts III class run the cafe in the Tech Wing of the school, as well as host restaurants for parents and staff. Tualatin High's Child Development and Intro to Education program gives students the opportunity to gain experience working with pre-school kids to prepare them for various careers in psychology, education, and pre-med. Students taking their Child Development II course are practicing childcare with robot babies for 72 hours; these robot babies mimic the patterns and habits of actual babies so students are gaining great skills.
Tigard High School's CE2 (Community Experience for Career Education) program offers students the opportunity to earn internship credits and gain job skills through their one-month internships. These students are able to work on their resumes and sample different jobs so that they know which career field they would like to enter after high school. Students are also able to graduate early with this program as three students have graduated early so far for this school year. More information about this program can be found here.
Creekside Community High School's Community Culinary programs gives students the opportunity to grow their own produce and use that as ingredients for their school lunches. These students also learn the technology used for growing product and the marketability of food as they develop student-led businesses around value-added grocery store products. This school also offers programs such as Community Leadership and Community Design in Manufacturing.
We are all so proud of our students!
Art Literacy at Tigard Library
TTSD student artwork is on display at the Tigard Library!
Stop by the children's area to see the artwork.
Students at Durham Elementary studied the artist, John Audubon, who is known as one of the greatest painters dedicated to the study and preservation of birds. Audubon worked primarily with watercolor, adding colored chalk or pastel to bring the look of softness to the feathers. The National Audubon Society was named in his honor. For this project, students learned about bird shapes and how to collage scrap materials to create a cohesive piece of artwork.
Students at Templeton Elementary studied the Brazilian artist, Lygia Clark (pronounced Lee-zhee-yah). She was known for her paintings and sculptures; during the 1960s and 1970s she began to explore the idea of sensory perception, people interacting with art. She created art installations where people would pick up the art and participate with performance events. For this project, students learned about Sculpture and Mixed Media, to create their own artwork using copper wire, copper foil, wood, clay, glue, and a wooden dowel.

Results of Winter Walk+Roll Challenge
Five elementary schools participated with over 1,290 total students who chose to walk, bike, roll, or bus to school. That means that over 51% of students at participating schools travelled to school without a car! What we are seeing is a trend of families choosing healthy and active transportation options to travel to/from school, which aligns with a regional movement to reduce car traffic around schools.
We have awards for the schools with the largest percentage of walkers, rollers (bike/scooter/wheelchair/etc), and bus users. Without further ado (drum roll)โฆ
Winter 2023 Golden Awards
Golden Sneaker Award: Tualatin Elementary
Golden Roller Award: Metzger Elementary
Golden School Bus: Deer Creek Elementary
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL SCHOOLS!!! Special shoutout to the schools with Walking School Buses and/or Bike Trains.
Hereโs a thought: If we can do it once a month, why not once a weekโฆ or every day?
Thank you all for your efforts! It just takes 1-2 advocates from each school to improve the way we get around our communities.
