Happy New Year Timberstone Bands!
From the Directors
Before you know it, we'll be scheduling for next year too! We hope that all members of the Timberstone Bands continue their musical journey. In the 7th grade, we perform at the Light's Before Christmas. In 8th grade, the band performs at a music festival at Cedar Point. Not to mention the individual advancement of the language of music!
While preparing for all of these things, we'll continue to listen, observe, and evaluate musicianship for each band member.

OMEA District I Honors Band Members
This year, we sent in 20 audition tapes for the Ohio Music Education Association's District Honor Band. These students were competing for a seat with musicians from Wood, Lucas, Williams, Defiance, Henry, and Fulton County. To get 7 students selected with this much competition is a wonderful testament to the musicianship our students possess.
Their performance is free and open to the public. The concert is Sunday, at 2:30pm on February 12, 2017 at the Stranahan Theater,
Spring Recital & Art Festival
We've aligned this performance with the school's spring Festival of the Arts. You'll be able to tour Timberstone and see examples of all of the great visual and performance arts our building has.
Don't forget, this is a required band event. Students will have more specific times at the end of February.

OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest~ 7/8th Grade Only
Students who participate in this event will prepare and perform a piece of music for a judge, who is a specialist on their instrument, provide immediate and direct feedback of the performance, as well as written feedback. Students can prepare a solo and/or a small ensemble with a few friends.
Timberstone Band Members should really consider taking on this unique challenge. Those who participate will grow musically in ways are the difficult to match in everyday rehearsals and group lessons. It is a great opportunity to gain exposure to music written or arranged specifically for your instrument. Finally, for every event you participate in, we'll give you playing test credit on your band grade.
This is a great way to challenge yourself, a wonderful event, and a ton of fun! Here's a link to the permission slip, they are due January 18th.

8th Grade Band Members
As the scheduling season begins, we have a few things that we do in addition to the school's scheduling in order to prepare for the next band season. Parents, look for the Commitment Packet in a week or two. This packet contains a description of how band works at Southview High School, the beginnings of our band calendar (including the summer camp & rehearsals), and a Commitment Form. When this comes home, it's important: ALL BAND MEMBERS turn in a commitment form, this includes students who will be attending other high schools or not continuing in band.
In addition to the Commitment packet, all band members will record an audition to be placed into the appropriate high school band. This is for both Southview and Northview high school band programs. Note, this audition counts as a playing test and EVERYBODY will be expected to complete it.
Again, this information will be coming out in a few weeks. Paper packets will be sent home with the kids and an assignment will be placed on google classroom.
