A combination of stilted houses and modern concrete houses are visible across the village.

Since its establishment the docking has produced a number of boats with varying degrees of sizes. Most of the boats take the forms of Bugis Phinisi styles.

The boat making process uses traditional machinery with only a few modern tools. A professional boat maker (the Tukang) has a skill which has been passed down from generation to generation. The way they make the boat is very unique and traditional. The outer parts (planks) are made first before they build the frame. The overall boat design is only drawn in their mind.

The boat is made from a variety of woods. The woods are imported from other islands. For the boat base or keel we use iron wood and Ulin. This wood is very hard, water–resistant, and strong. For the boat wall (plank) we use langotii wood. And for the connectors (nails) we use spang woods.Kesambi is used for the boat frame.

The first part that we have to know is the length of the keel. After that we put the connecting wood to the front part of the keel and then put planks on boat sides so you get the desired form. After the planks take into shape it is easy to continue building the other parts of the boat.
