Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 5th October 2018
Respect for the Harvest
Respect for the harvest by Luke and Lily
Did you know that in most developed countries over half of all food waste takes place in the home? That's a lot food! We promised to take on the challenge to not waste our meals and eat everything that we have.
We should respect God's harvest and also God's creation and protect the world and the living creatures on our Earth.Remember to recycle!
We really enjoyed the harvest worship at the Cathedral. The prayer that Matthew shared reminded us all to be respectful and thankful for all that God has given us.
The collection at the end of the service raised £55 for Christian Aid!
Thank you to all the parents that came to see our Harvest.
Class Ambassadors
Following last Monday's exciting election, our new lead school ambassadors wasted no time in interviewing candidates from Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 for the roles of class ambassadors. Interviews were conducted by the lead ambassadors, Finlay and Eva, and they were highly impressed with some of the responses from children about why they should be chosen as the ambassador for their class.

Year 3 Q&A
Improve your whole family's Spanish!
We have an exciting opportunity coming up for one family to strengthen their European links and language skills! If you would like to host our Spanish exchange teaching student from Monday 5th November for 12 weeks (except Christmas), please contact Mrs Binks. Basic costs are covered and your guest will help with housework/babysitting and encourage your children to speak Spanish too.

Safer Parking
The bad news was that we have received multiple complaints for inappropriately parked cars from local residents and parents, who are very concerned that poor parking puts all the children at risk. Please avoid the stress of finding somewhere legal and safe to park, by asking for a parking pemit.
Oscar's Wrap Around Care
Oscar's is back to its regular hours, opening for breakfast from 8am and running to 5.45pm after school. Booking is made using our online booking site. Just use the email address you have provided to school as your username and click 'forgotten password' the first time you use it. Please email us at school if you are experiencing any difficulties.
Due to staffing issues, it will not be possible to run any Oscar's days in the October half term break. However, we will be open for the full day on the Friday 19th October training day at a bargain cost of £20 for 8am to 5.15pm or £15 for 8am to 1pm/1pm to 5.15pm.
Message from the Governors
Meet your Governors
The parent teacher appointment day on Friday 19th October should see many of you in school, so the governors hope you will also take the opportunity to visit their refreshment table! As well as enjoying a coffee with them, this will be a great time to meet the governors and find out more about their work for school.
MESSAGE FROM THE FRIENDS
AGM: Thank you to all the parents who came to the AGM on Tuesday. It was lovely to see some new faces and to receive offers of help from people who coudn't make the meeting. However, we weren't able to elect a chair or co-chairs. We desperately need your help. Is there anyone willing to join and take the chair role? You will be supported by the existing committee members who have been chair in the past. It is a rewarding role to take on and can be worked around existing commitments. Or a group of parents could volunteer together to spread the load. Contact Mrs Rich in the office or speak to Dawn, Tina, Liz or Katy to find out more about it.
Design your own Christmas card or mug: Your child will bring home a form to complete for designing and ordering their own personalised items. Please return it by Monday 22nd October. Thank you.
