Read Across Little Elm! March 9th
Grab Your Hat and Read with the Cat! Celebrate NEA's Read Across America Day with Little Elm Reads! Those who are six, sixteen, sixty-four, and more have all kinds of great events in store for the National Education Association's nineteenth annual observance of NEA's Read Across America. NEA is calling America's children, both young and old, to reward their learning by celebrating the joys of reading on Dr. Seuss's birthday. Readers of all ages are encouraged to celebrate with this year's book Oh, the Places You'll Go!
Our reading party here at Prestwick STEM Academy will take place on March 9, 2017, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
So please mark your calendars now and feel free to contact Ronna Wyse at rwyse@littleelmisd.net if you have any questions. For more information about how to generate excitement for reading among America's children and their families and about best practices for motivating and teaching reading, visit www.nea.org/readacross.

LEarning @ Prestwick
In the Kinder and 1st grade house, 7th grade students spiraled in that were not testing to read with students. They would listen to students read and even after play some games. The funny thing is- even 7th graders know its about keeping the students engaged. Some changed areas and interacted with students to make sure the learning was fun! Smiles by all. One 7th grade student, Cade, even stated this was one of the best days ever at school: working with the younger students and getting to be with his favorite teacher from elementary school, Mrs. Graves! Great moments.
Another opportunity came when younger students got to pair up with band students! Kindergarten and first graders enjoyed learning music with their 7th/8th grade Band Buddies. Elementary students learned about band techniques such as tuning, proper breathing, and counting rhythmic notation. Elementary students left the class excited about the idea of joining band one day!
Overall, just know we embrace learning happening anytime, anywhere and we all learn through working with each other! Together we are better!
Checking their bingo cards!
I see a future band student!
Having Fun!
Prestwick Humble Helpers are Asking for New Socks!
If you want to donate a new pair of socks to help out those who may need it, please drop off your items in the front office. Warm feet are always a good thing when houses are cold and to wear with shoes. It's a small item, we sometimes take for granted. If you are out and about this weekend, pick up a pair!
Staff Spotlight
Greetings Lobos! PSA is excited to introduce, Mrs. Rachell Lucas. Mrs. Lucas teaches middle school STEM electives: Real Solutions, Lego Robotics & Game Design, and Investigating Careers I & II. For more information on these courses please view our PSA 2017-2018 Course Guide. Mrs. Lucas is from a small town in East Texas, known as Rusk, Texas. Mrs. Lucas’s received a calling early in her professional career to enter the education profession and has been educating, inspiring and motivating students for the last eight years.
An aspect that Mrs. Lucas loves about teaching is exposing students to real world experiences and making learning relevant, “I love that I’m preparing students for real world opportunities. I expose them to STEM skills, employability skills, and I assist them with making industry connections.” This year, Mrs. Lucas has exposed students to a variety of professionals and careers within the workforce such as, emergency response operators, representatives and engineers from Coserv, and international entrepreneurs. Coming soon in April, Mrs. Lucas has partnered with InTouch bank to facilitate two financial literacy workshops. Elementary and middle school students will have the opportunity to open real bank accounts and will will be able to make bank deposits and withdrawals on campus and at any InTouch banking branch. More information to come.
