This past week was busy at RK Finn Ryan Road Elementary School!

First, we had our Back to School PTO Meeting on Wednesday, September 21. Caregivers, families, and students were welcomed to join the meeting this year. While our dedicated PTO Board Members welcomed caregivers to hear more about our PTO and their important work, students were entertained by Magician Ed Pop. An Ice Cream Social was made possible by generous donations of ice cream (including Super Man flavor!) from our local Friendly's and PTO Treasurer Tom Murphy was busy making popcorn! It was a great event and an exciting start to our school year and many more community events!

We also had our Autumnal Equinox this week. While rainy conditions pushed this event back to Friday afternoon, the entire school came outside to participate in a DAY = NIGHT formation and classes discussed what the fall equinox involves. After the celebration, students were treated to a delicious apple and some additional outdoor time to play.

Garden Instruction and Exploration w/ School Sprouts & Hope!

We have started our garden classes with Hope. Students in all grade levels have scheduled time with Hope, our Garden Instructor. This month, students were able to harvest their crop from last year, including finding lots of potatoes (and some voles who had made their way into our garden as well!).

Students are incredibly proud and excited to see their hand work pay off and we love the connections to our curriculum!

Scarlet and Ursula helped us make birthday announcements this week and selected the song we played to celebrate!

Ms. Minton has shared forms with students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 to complete if they would like to help us make these announcements, select a song, help with breakfast, and help with various leadership activities throughout the year!

Bus Evacuations

This week our entire school participated in bus evacuations. Alongside the Transportation Department and all of our helpful bus drives and monitors, we prepared students should the need to evacuate a bus ever arise.

Students attended the evacuation as individual classes, allowing time for questions and clear understanding of how to safely depart the bus.

After School Options

YEP: We will continue to hold YEP (Youth Enrichment Programs) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:10-4pm. YEP runs three 6-8 week sessions throughout the school year. We’ll send more information about YEP classes soon.

YMCA: The YMCA. Hampshire YMCA runs an afterschool program at the school until 6pm. Space is limited. Contact the Hampshire YMCA directly for more information.
