BES Weekly Updates

Week of September 28-October 2

Hello Byrd Families! You may notice our Weekly Updates look a little different this week. We are using a new platform to share information with you. This should be easily viewable on any device and make locating links, etc easier for you! Most exciting, our weekly updates are now more accessible than ever and can be translated in many different languages straight from your device. Starting this week, you should receive an email with a link to the updates, as well as a text and quick phone call highlighting everything that will be covered in the newsletter. We welcome your feedback as we take a risk and try something new!

Now, for the updates and reminders this week, we know that there is a lot of information coming your way right now and many choices to be made. This is a lengthy update but full of great information so please be sure to read to the end!

Please complete the survey shared by Dr. Raley prior to 4:00 p.m. on Friday October 2 for each elementary child who is currently enrolled in our schools. Let us know if you will be choosing to send your child to school or if they will continue with their current distance learning approach. Please note that the choice you make will be binding through the end of the first semester that ends on Friday December 18.

We are here to support you through this process. If families need assistance completing the survey, more information about the plan or a paper copy of the survey please call the school at (804) 556-5380.

Equity and Inclusion in GCPS

At their meeting on September 8, the Goochland County School Board affirmed its commitment to providing our students, staff, families, and visitors a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. At this meeting, the Board unanimously approved a revision to our Standards of Student Conduct (JFC-R) that aligns directly with their resolution adopted at their meeting on June 9, 2020, their three equity goals, their Equity Policy, and our division’s Engage 2026 Strategic Plan. Specific revisions were made to sections related to disruptive conduct and student dress. Our school division remains committed to providing an equitable and inclusive work and learning environment that embraces diversity, condemns racism, and is free of harassment and discrimination for everyone.

Students who are learning virtually for at least 5 consecutive days and are eligible for free or reduced-price meals are eligible to receive a P-EBT benefit this fall. If you received a P-EBT benefit this past spring or summer, the new benefit will be automatically added to your card. It is not necessary to contact the school about this benefit. All eligible students will be submitted for benefits by the school division. Benefits will be issued between September 30 and October 15, 2020. If you have questions about P-EBT after this date or want more information, please visit the DSS P-EBT webpage to submit your question and receive a response. You can also view the flier here.
