Hawk Squawk Newsletter 1/26/23
Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
What a great week we've had! Last Friday Mrs Burdick and Ms Orme's 3rd grade classes ran our PERSEVERANCE assembly. Click here for their creative performance. The following students were recognized for making purposeful strides in perseverance this month: Brody Hanson, Milo Saylor, Beau Hengstler, Lillia Semler, Gabriel Carrillo. I've included a photo of these amazing students below.
On Tuesday we had a visit from the Middle school music program - and you all probably know by now that music is my jam! The LMS Band, Orchestra and Choir performed for our 3rd - 5th graders. It was a delight to see so many former Hallinan students involved in the music program at the middle school. This definitely proves how lucky we are to have Mr Haynor! I've included photos of the Band and Choir below. Unfortunately, I do not have a photo of the Orchestra. We loved them ALL!!!
And, another group that never stops PERSEVERING is our PTO! Just one of the many curriculum enhancements they bring to us is Art Literacy. This month, students are learning about Islamic Art. The hallmark principles we are studying are Balance and Pattern. Balance is the distribution of visual weight in a work of art, it can be symmetrical, asymmetrical or radial. Pattern is the uniform repetition of elements of art. The art elements we are focusing on are Line and Shape. Lines can be thick, thin, straight or curved and often form shapes. Shape can also be identified through the use of color or value changes.
Ms Franz's 4th grade class holding their prized tiles is featured below. If you roam the Hallinan halls, Art Lit tiles are hung near many of our classrooms.
Next month, we'll move on to a new character trait, but I know PERSEVERANCE will stay with us. It's the Hallinan way!

Hello Hallinan Families!
Slice of Gratitude
A big thank you to our two card art chairs Kim Hottel and Amber Batchelder. There were some issues with our established printing company and these two women were able to troubleshoot that and give us the opportunity to continue this Hallinan tradition. If you see them around, give them a big thank you!

The "Give to Grow" 2023 Hallinan Auction
Save the date: April 13th!
The auction is coming back to Hallinan but with a fun new twist! We are holding both the auction and carnival at the same time! All auction items will be available to view online starting on April 12th. Bidding will begin the morning of April 13th and all items will be displayed in the gymnasium. While kids play at the carnival, parents can take turns mingling amongst a variety of tantalizing auction items. Every class will be completing an art project for the auction and Room Parents will be sending out more information (including sign-ups) very soon!
Right now we are seeking volunteers with the most pressing need being to help us fill our bidding tables!
We also need decor design leaders, a signage team, item handlers and day of helpers!

Coming Soon to a Backpack Near You....
We are calling on our Hallinan community and asking what you can bring to the table (pun intended).
Does your business want to be featured on our auction tables? Do you have a vacation rental you are willing to donate?
Kids will be bringing home Give to Grow auction flyers attached to an item donation procurement form. We are considering everything! So please keep an eye out for those, fill out the forms, and return via email or the PTO box located inside the Hallinan office. And reach out to the auction team if you have any great ideas, items, or general leads.
Email your Give to Grow auction chairs Barbara Carbone & Tara Lee Clasen at: pto.auction.hallinan@gmail.com
Spread the word
And remember, this newsletter is the best way for all Hallinan parents to stay informed. We will be rolling out a lot more info about the auction and we would appreciate you letting parents know to check their inboxes!
Recess Monitors Needed!
Ever wonder what recess is all about? Now you have an opportunity to help Hallinan and hang out with students at recess as a recess monitor! Piano Player Needed!
Ok folks! We are still needing a pianist for our Missoula Children's Theater performance. Please email the PTO President inbox if you have any leads. Maybe it is a piano teacher needing to advertise their business? Or a retired musician wanting to give back to their local community? The time requirements are sprinkled throughout the week of May 1-6 with more info on the Sign-Up Genius.
