October is already half over! Friday, October 14th marked the end of the first nine weeks. I sent out an email with the times available for parent teacher conferences. Please make sure we have a time worked out to go over your child's progress thus far. I will be giving out the students report card at the conferences for just this first nine weeks grading period. • verb
  • adjective

Please make sure your child brings their library books back on Monday the 17th. We will be getting new ones. They will not be able to check out new ones until they return the others.

Writer's Workshop

We are going to incorporate our unit on voting into our writing. We will begin learning a little bit about what an opionion paper is. We will also be using the strategies that we have learned to improve some of the writing pieces we have already started.

Spelling

We will be reviewing the last five chapters covered over the last few weeks. I will be sending home a list for them to use to review these words with. We will also spend the week talking about the different short vowel sounds. A practice test will be given so they can see what this type of spelling test will look like.

Science

We will be taking a break this week to focus on introducing our voting unit.

Social Studies

We will be introducing our unit about voting. We will first start out by finding out what is voting and why it is an important right as an American citizen.

Math

We will continue to work with writing groups of ten. We will also start working with time.

We will be discussing how Noah obeyed God.

We took the test over Texas and U.S. symbols.

Reader's and Writer's Workshop

During Reader's Workshop, we looked at some different comprehension strategies. We are learning that reading is not just decoding the words, but also learning information from the words. We can either learn new knowledge or learn something about the story.

In Writer's workshop we talked about revising our writing. We are talking about ARMS revision strategy.

R= remove unneeded words or sentences

M= move a word or sentence placement

We also touched on CUPS for editing a piece.

Math

We started our new chapter about how to tell how many groups of tens we will have by how the word is written.

We learned about words that have the short i sound in them. We worked with opposites.
