New Albany Intermediate School

December 9, 2019

The month of December is a busy time at NAIS! From MAP Testing, to Spelling Bees, and Band, Choir, and Orchestra Concerts, there is a lot going on. We would love to see you at one of our upcoming winter concerts! Please see the flyer towards the bottom of the newsletter for upcoming concert dates and times.

Students at NAIS will take the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in Reading and Math three times a year. We use the MAP tests to determine your child’s current academic levels in reading and math. Winter Testing will take place December 9-19, 2019 at NAIS. To learn more about MAP tests, click here.

TECHNOLOGY: iPad Software Update

We are in the process of updating to the new iOS 13.2.3 on all student iPads. This download for the Software automatically happens in the background and students receive a pop up when the software is ready to install. If you have a 5th or 6th grade student, they can install the software at home by going to Settings > General > Software Update and manually updating their iPads. The install should only take 5-10 minutes. It can also be updated at school, but is helpful if updated at home when it becomes available so students are not waiting in class for the update to finalize.

For more information on our One-to-One Technology Initiative please visit the District Technology Department webpage by clicking here, which highlights the district technology plan, helpful parent technology resources, and ipad support resources.

The Intermediate “I” Wing 5th grade classes have started the annual Coats for Kids Campaign. Last year we collected 400 coats, over 200 hats, and 200 pairs of gloves for the upcoming winter season for those who are in need. Each morning students can bring in any infant, adolescent, or adult sized jacket, hats, and gloves to the upstairs “I” Wing stage area from 9:00-9:20 a.m. and turn it into our Collecting Crew. Coats don’t have to be brand new, but please make sure jackets are clean and are ready to be shipped for delivery. This campaign will run through December 20th. Let’s all work together to help others who are in need!

Please ensure students are dressed for the cold weather as we enter the winter season. As much as possible, we like to take students outdoors for recess. Recess will be held indoors when the temperature and wind chill factor register 20 degrees or below, or when very wet weather conditions prevail.
