GHS Newsletter
Issue 2: October 2021
Happy Fall!
This newsletter is NOT only for seniors, so don't stop reading!
Be sure you are checking your email on a regular basis.
Senior To Do's:
1. Completing and Submitting the FAFSA (or TAFSA if you do not have a Social Security Number)
--> Remember, this is required for graduation unless you complete the waiver!
2. Submitting college applications
-Be sure to have a teacher, parent, etc. look over your essay(s) and help you proofread them!
3. Completed a resume
4. Begin asking your teachers for recommendation letters if your scholarship and/or college applications require them. Provide the teacher with your resume so they have plenty of quality information to write about you!
5. Look and apply for scholarships. Local scholarship information will be handed out in January, but you can search for scholarships offered by your college, specifically for your major, and other attributes that are unique to you! Have your parents find out if their employers offer scholarships. Several of the electric companies in our area offer scholarships to people who use their services.

Tips on Finding a Job

Opportunity to Earn Phlebotomy Certifcation
To take this course, you must be at least 16 when the course begins. The course costs about $600, but is held on GISD campus with all supplies provided by Angelina College and lasts for one semester.
There are other, similar certificates that can also be obtained in the same manner, including CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) and EKG certification. If all three of these are obtained, a Patient Care Technician Certificate is awarded.
If you are interested in taking Phlebotomy, there is a sign up sheet in the office. This sheet only indicates that you are interested and want more information, it does NOT definitively sign you up for the course.
