Welcome to Coronado Middle School March 9-13, 2020

This week's mindset quote: “Wherever you are, be all there.”

March Key of Excellence is "This Is It!"

Dear Parents,

I'm happy to announce that Assistant Principal Falar and her husband are expecting their second child later this month. Mrs. Falar's last day for the school year will be March 25th. We wish her and the Falar family all the best, and we look forward to seeing her back at CMS in August 2020.

I'm please to announce that Mr. Ryan Keller, CMS Teacher and Administrative Designee, will step in as interim assistant principal during Mrs. Falar's leave. Mr. Keller has been teaching at CMS for eight years and serves in several leadership roles on campus and in CUSD. He holds an administrative services credential, and therefore, will function in the same capacity as the CMS administrative team. Mr. Keller will begin his interim transition on March 18th and his duties will officially begin on March 26th. Mr. Keller can be reached at ryan.keller@coronadousd.net.

As always, I thank you for your ongoing support. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

Respectfully,

Karin Mellina

Principal

6th Grade Parents

On Tuesday, March 24th, your child will be taking part in a program called "Drug Store," which is put together by Coronado SAFE and held at the Coronado Middle School.

The role of parents in drug and alcohol education is very important. The goal of the Drug Store Program is to engage our children to critically think about making positive, healthy lifestyle choices. The Drug Store is a dramatic, experiential program that takes students on a journey through the natural consequences of poor choices with regard to drugs and alcohol. More than 300 local sixth grade students from Coronado Middle School, Sacred Heart Parish School and Christ Church Day School go through this program. This community-wide event involves more than 100 volunteers including parents, DEA agents, police officers, EMTs, lawyers, judges, therapists, ministers, and more!

There are volunteer opportunities that take place the evening before the event, as well as throughout the event the following day. Please understand that you may be reassigned to a different role depending upon the needs of the program. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

We need your help to make this event a success!

8th Grade Promotion:

Hello future Freshman Parents & CHS Class of 2024,

As we enter into these exciting times for our young students, let's not forget how they started their middle school years: campus orientation, 6th Grade Olympics, 6th Grade Camp, Cotillion, Drug Store, Medieval Times etc. We plan to create a video slideshow that includes the whole class and will be shown at CMS 8th Grade Promotion Breakfast. To help complete this project, please email 3 JPEG pictures of your student to us. Please ensure they are clear, edited and ready for inclusion in our CMS 8th Grade Promotion end-of-year video.

The absolute deadline will be May 15, 2020. There will be reminders, but the deadline to produce this quality video of 200+ students is May 15, 2020. We are excited to be a part of this fun production.
